Alvin E Koffarnus
Hilbert, WI

Alvin E. Koffarnus, age 90, of Hilbert, died on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Brillion Westhaven in Brillion.  He was born December 9, 1926 in the Town of Chilton, son of the late George & Helena (Lautenschlager) Koffarnus.

Alvin was baptized into the family of Christ and later confirmed his faith at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert where he remained a life long member serving on various boards.

He proudly served in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged in September of 1947.  Following his discharge, Alvin began working with his brother, Rueben at his cheese factory.

He married Delores Paul at Peace Evangelical & Reformed Church in Potter on August 16, 1949.  In April of the following year, the couple moved back to the Koffarnus family homestead and began farming in the Town of Chilton.  During his time on the farm, the Koffarnus family farm was recognized as a Century Farm having remained in the same family for 100 years from 1883 to 1983.  Through his working career, Alvin also worked installing silo and barn equipment for a local dealer.

Knowing all of the blessings bestowed upon him by God, Alvin always maintained a servant’s heart looking to serve others in any way he could.  Besides the various boards and committees he volunteered on at church, he also served on the Hilbert School District Board and served as Treasurer for the Town of Chilton for 32 years.

Although Alvin worked hard and served others well, he also found time to relax and enjoy himself.  He enjoyed time spent bowling with his wife at couple’s bowling and going out polka and square dancing.  Alvin looked forward to shooting dart ball, and enjoyed the great outdoors hunting, sturgeon spearing and taking time to travel to Canada & Minnesota to fish.  His most cherished hobby was playing cards; with a slap on his knee and a contagious joyful laugh, everyone in the house knew Alvin was playing.

Survivors include his children: Dallas (Denith) Koffarnus, Douglas (Cheri) Koffarnus, Daniel (Cindy) Koffarnus; his grandchildren: Michael, Andrew, Sarah, Thomas, Amy, Tracy, Ross, Nicholas & Taylor; his great grandchildren: Isaac, Norah, Lauren, Elsie, Anna, Evan, Claire, Vivian, Lydia & Karen; a sister: Vera Smallcombe; and his sisters-in-law: Elaine Giese, Kay Koffarnus & Edwina Paul.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Delores; an infant grandchild: Ryan; 6 brothers; and 3 sisters.

Funeral service will be at 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at St. Peter Lutheran Church (43 N. 3rd St.) in Hilbert with the Rev. Mark Krueger officiating.  Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church from 2:00 pm until 3:45 pm on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

My sympathy to Alvin's Family. He will be forever remembered his jolly laugh & always smiling. Also the fun we had at the corn roasts & 4th of July parade in Hilbert. Enjoyed looking at the pictures & seeing how your families have grown. God Bless You all. Thank you Koffarnus's for touching my life!

God hroke the mold when he created Alvin. Such a kind and friendly person. He was a pleasure to work for. I liked his sweet chuckle. Sad he is gone but happy he is with Delores.

Amy, Your grandpa lived life to the fullest. He used his leadership skills to make the world a better place. Although we have only worked together a short time, I can see those skills in you. Care and thoughts to your family

Our heartfelt sympathy to Alvin's family. I will always have a special place in my heart for Alvin and Delores. I served with Alvin on the Town of Chilton Town Board for 7 years. I was the Town Clerk and Alvin was the Town Treasurer. I enjoyed working with Alvin & Delores taking care of Town business and enjoyed our friendship. Alvin & Delores were wonderful people and I will miss them. May God keep your family in His care as you celebrate Alvin's life and all that he meant to the people who's lives he touched. Sincerely Tom & Linda Cullen

Lots of memories of following Alvin on the farm helping, getting in the way, or asking a million questions about farming. He was an outstanding man!! Much love to his family.
