Betty J Kossman
Belleville, IL

Betty J. Kossman, known as ‘Betty Boop’ to her friends, age 65, of Belleville, IL, formerly of Chilton, died on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at her home in Belleville. She was born February 26, 1952 in Fond du Lac, daughter of the late Earl & Mae (Seefeldt) Kossman.

Betty served in the United States Marine Corps and following her discharge, she worked for nearly 37 years in Federal Civil Service as a telecommunications specialist. She began her Civil Service Career at Cherry Point North Carolina before being transferred to Great Lakes in Illinois. This move ultimately led her to Scott Air Force Base in Illinois where she remained until her retirement in August of 2007.

Betty was known to be a free spirit whose fierce independence allowed her to walk to the beat of her own drum. With a very social demeanor, Betty never knew a stranger, just people she hadn’t become acquainted with yet. In her free time, she enjoyed a good game of softball and spent countless hours on the golf course enjoying every challenge the course had to offer. She looked forward to fishing trips, especially deep sea fishing and treasured the many camping excursions she was on throughout the United States. Betty was especially excited about the upcoming camping season just around the corner. Betty remained an incredibly intelligent individual; although she resided in the state of Illinois, she remained a huge Green Bay Packer Fan.

Survivors include her friend: Sue Norwood of Belleville, IL; her dear canine companion: Roxy Mae; her siblings: Alice Schultz of Sheboygan, Mary (Richard) Riesterer of Chilton, John Kossman of Chilton; and a brother-in-law: Jerry Jochimsen of Appleton. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a sister: Sue Jochimsen; a brother-in-law: Ken Ludwig; and a niece: Michelle Schultz.

Funeral service will be at 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton; burial will be in the Portland Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 13, 2017 when the service will be held.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Betty will enjoy spending time with her family in heaven.

My memory of Betty was her dedication of marching in Chilton's Memorial Day parade with the Armed Services Veterans for many years. Service to our country went well beyond the years she spent in active duty. RIP.

Wendy Galley (Cousin) - May 13, 2017

Our sympathy Mary and Dick and your family. May she rest in peace.
