Corey J Gruett
Hilbert, WI

Corey John Gruett, 44, of Hilbert passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017, as a result of a tragic accident. He was born on January 10, 1973, son of Lloyd and Jean (Salm) Gruett. On September 13, 2014 he was united in marriage with BreAnn Eichmeier.

Corey graduated from Hilbert High School. He was a truck driver for Waste Management, just shy of 20 years. Prior he drove over the road and worked at Gruett’s in Potter. He enjoyed bowling in the Monday night bowling league in Hilbert. He always looked forward to sturgeon spearing season and his yearly fishing trip on the big lake for salmon. Corey spent deer hunting season with his father-in- law and brothers- in-law, sometimes considered a fair weather hunter. Corey was a member of the Quinney Fishing Club and had recently participated in their annual sheepshead tournament. He loved working in his shed fixing and building things. He was a skilled welder and handyman, not many things he wouldn’t take on. His latest project was planning and watching his dream house being built.

Above all else Corey loved his family. His “girls” BreAnn and Luci were his greatest loves. He was so proud of his family and everyone knew it. Corey loved being a Daddy and was excited to be welcoming a second child this fall. He had many friends that were very important to him. He had a tremendous heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. His hugs would brighten anyone’s day.

Corey is survived by his wife, BreAnn, daughter, Lucina “Luci”, and baby Gruett; his parents: Lloyd and Jean Gruett; brothers: Scott (Ginger) Gruett, Paul (Terry) Gruett, Chad Gruett, and Tyler Gruett; sisters: Amy (Jim) Heideman, Katie (Kim) Plate, and Kristie Gruett (fiance, Andy); Grandmother: Betty Salm; brothers-in-law: Brad (Jennifer) Eichmeier, Bruce (Jennifer) Eichmeier,  and Brandon (Tara) Eichmeier; mother-and father-in-law: Paul and Diane Eichmeier; nephews, nieces, many other relatives, and friends.

Corey was preceded in death by his grandparents: Edwin and Mabel Gruett, and John Salm; and a sister-in-law: Heather Gruett.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 11:00am at St. John-Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. John Site (County Highway BB & B) with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W Main St) Chilton on Friday, September 1, 2017, from 4:00pm until 7:30pm and again at St. John-Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, September 2, 2017, from 9:00am until 10:45am. A prayer service will take place Friday evening at the close of visitation.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the Hilbert/Potter First Responders and all others who assisted.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Corey’s name.
Corey came to our wedding with having drank a few to many. All he wanted was to give me a hug and tell me how luck I was to have found Paul. I being upset ran to bathroom and calm myself down only to find him waiting outside the bathroom with his smile on his face and one of his big bear hugs waiting. We got him a safe ride home.
May all your wonderful memories of Corey help you durn this difficult time. A wonderful man gone to soon.

When I think of Corey, I immediately picture his smile. I don't remember ever seeing him not smiling. He was just a genuinely nice person. We rode the bus together in high school, and he was always very entertaining and funny. My deepest sympathies to all of Corey's family and friends.

Pamela Lundgren (Lemke) (Friend) - Aug. 30, 2017

It just seemed like yesterday that you started your family. We remembered what a wonderful time that we had at your wedding. So sad to see such a wonderful person leaving everyone behind. However God has taken the best from earth and had plans of his own for you. God Bless you and your Family, which will miss you dearly.

I can't name just 1. I was a lucky guy to have had so many with Corey starting in Grade School, Continuing in High School, and staying close friends throughout our 20's. This is way too sad and to happen to a really great person. Corey was an amazing friend that was there for someone whenever they needed it. I know I speak for a lot of people Stoney---you will be missed greatly and thought of often.
