Dorothy H Ertl
Stockbridge, WI

Dorothy Helen (Horn) Ertl, 88, of Stockbridge, died on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Libby’s House of Chilton. She was born November 23, 1928, in Birnamwood, WI, daughter of Frank Horn, Antoinette (Binder) Horn-Heimerl, and John Heimerl. She married Donald Orville Ertl on September 1, 1948 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert.

Dorothy was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge, and spent time volunteering as a Christian Mother as well as singing in the choir. She was also an active part of her community. Throughout her life she was a member of the 4 Leaf Clover Homemakers’ Club, Lakeshore 4H Club leader, a member of the Stockbridge school board, and she and Don volunteered at the New Holstein Salvatorian Center for 25 years.

Dorothy and Don were high school sweethearts before he was stationed in Bermuda during World War II. They wrote letters and sent pictures back and forth the entire time he was away. Upon his return, they continued their courtship, enjoying nights out to dance together. They were married the following year and continued dancing late into her life.

Dorothy was family oriented and a devoted wife that encouraged her husband’s hobbies - his fishing allowed her to do her oil paintings that hang in the family home. She’s remembered as a hard-working woman, always canning, freezing, and preserving food, usually food that she grew and picked herself out of her garden. The food she didn’t grow she baked in her kitchen. Her signature baked goods were her donuts and horns.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Donald; her children: Gary Ertl, Linda (Mark) Gajewski, Karen (Daniel) Kilduff, and Betty (Lynn) Reaves; her grandchildren: Angela, Leona, Theresa, Aaron, Joshua, Antoinette, Kevin, Jack, Christopher, Jennifer, and Kelsey; her great-grandchildren: Jack, Abraham, Henry, Victor, Helen, Emma, Cora, Isaac, Calvin, Elliot, Luke, and Ellie; her sisters: Julie Micke and Marlene (Richard) Eickert; sisters-in-law: Lois (Donald) Thiel and Lois Heimerl; and a former daughter-in-law: Brenda Ertl.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents: Frank Horn, Antoinette Horn Heimerl, and John Heimerl; her grandson: Brian; her sister: Elnora (Peter) Schust; her brothers: Anthony (Arlene) Heimerl, Leroy (Minnie) Heimerl, and Delvin Heimerl; sister-in-law: Joan (Donald) Sielaff; and brothers-in-law: Edward Micke, Cletus (Eunice) Ertl, and Wilbur (Marion) Ertl.

Funeral services will be at 11:00am on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church (Military Road) in Stockbridge. Friends may call from 4:30pm to 6:00pm at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W Main St) in Chilton on Monday, November 20, 2017, and again from 9:00am until 10:45am at St. Mary Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. A prayer service will take place Monday evening following the visitation.
We remember her and Don’s support while walking the FoxCities Marathons. Our sympathies to everyone
