Earl H Sticka
Chilton, WI

Earl H. Sticka, age 84, of Chilton, was surrounded by his family, as he peacefully went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.  He was born April 13, 1933 son of the late Edward and Antonia (Novak) Sticka.  He married Patricia C. Nowacki on May 6, 1961 in Athens, Wisconsin.

Most of Earl’s working life involved teaching driver’s education at Chilton High School.  Upon retiring from teaching he was a part time mail carrier.  But most often, Earl was spending time working at Sticka’s Kick Shoppe, which he owned for over 20 years.

Earl proudly served in the US Army from 1953-1955.  He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton, where he was a lector for many years.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Financial Secretary.

Doing puzzles and watching sports events were favorite past times.  He loved attending the events his 6 kids were involved in throughout their years in school.   More recently, Earl would be seen in the stands, proudly cheering on the grandchildren at their games and events.  Announcing for the Chilton High School’s wrestling matches, was something else Earl did with pride and enjoyment.

Earl had a unique sense of humor, but was equally known for his generosity.  He was always there for his family when needed, with the response, “that’s what father’s are for”.  Another favorite line, “is this my most beautiful daughter?”, was used often, to make his girls know he loved them.  He was given the “Best Grandpa” award by his 15 grandchildren who loved teasing him, and will greatly miss him.

Earl is missed by many but especially by his family, his wife, Patricia Sticka; children:  Brian (Lisa) Sticka, Sandra (James) Buhl, Lisa (Scott) Retzlaff, Michael Sticka, Betty Schmidt and special friend Brian Maki, and Stacy (Jesse) Propson; grandchildren:  Jenny Sticka, Jackie Sticka, Rachel Buhl and fiancé Caleb Bakker, Matthew Buhl, Kyle Retzlaff, Kevin Retzlaff and fiancee Amy Eischen, Kollin Retzlaff, Kelly Retzlaff, Shawn Sticka, Samantha Sticka, Shane Sticka, Logan Schmidt, Olivia Propson, Sophia Propson, and Cameron Propson; and 1 brother, Edward Sticka.  He was preceded in death by his siblings:  Marvin, Milton (Margaret), and Marjorie (Marvin), and sister-in-law Verna.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E Main St.) in Chilton with Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.  Friends may call at Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W Main St, Chilton) from 4:00 PM -7:00 PM on Friday, January 5, 2018 and on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the funeral home from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM.  A vigil service and Knights of Columbus service will take place at the funeral home on Friday evening at the close of visitation.
Loved Earl's dry sense of humor. Brightened my days as we worked together at CHS. Did he really used to make young drivers walk through their driving mjstakes?

Steve Stuebbe (Friend in education) - Jan. 7, 2018

When I started teaching at Chilton, Earl was one of those who went out of their way to welcome me. I always enjoyed Earl's wonderfully dry sense of humor. Earl the Pearl was a good man, I will miss him.

Dale Voskuil (Fellow teacher) - Jan. 5, 2018

We remember Earl from the shoe store where we bought many pairs of shoes through the years that he owned it, Our sympathy to Brian, Lisa, Jenny and Jackie and the rest of the Sticka family.

Sandy, my sympathy to you and your whole family. Your dad was a kind and gentle man.

Kris Hansen - Jan. 4, 2018

We often talked about our high school days and one thing was Drivers Ed. So many great stories of how we started out behind the wheel. He was a great teacher and a great father. Hold his memories deep in your hearts. Sandy, losing two so close I'm sure makes it very difficult. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Ann Konen - Jan. 4, 2018

What an honor to be one of the 6 luckiest kids chosen by God, to be yours. Will try to keep your sense of humor's on!
Love you more than words can say.

It was always so much fun playing "Sweep the Grass" with Uncle Earl. We never thought it was the least bit strange.
