Nora V McWilliams
Chilton, WI

Nora V. McWilliams, age 94, of Chilton, died on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Manitowoc Health & Rehab Center in Manitowoc.  She was born October 15, 1923 in Madison, daughter of the late Hugo & Ida (Mason) Gerth.  Nora married Harry “Dud” McWilliams on February 15, 1946 in Madison; he preceded her in death on September 8, 1985.

Nora worked as a bookkeeper for Farmer’s Mutual, now known as American Family Insurance, in Madison and later for the Calumet County Mental Health Center in Chilton.  She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert where she was also an active member of the Lutheran Women Missionary League. Nora also volunteered countless hours at the KayTee Avian Center giving tours and tended to the many beautiful and exotic birds who lived there.

With a fun and adventurous spirit, Nora highly valued moments of travel to new places throughout the United States, as well as locations in Europe.  In her retirement, Nora’s fiercely independent nature compelled her to get her own motor home in which she could cruise the open road and experience new places and meet new people. She had always appreciated camping, and her new wheels were a great way to build new memories upon this life long love.  Along with camping Nora and Dud had a love for being outdoors and embraced every opportunity bow hunting, snowmobiling, and being with each other taking in the fresh air.

She was a prodigious Green Bay Packer fan and never looked past moments to go golfing or bowling with her friends.  Nora was an avid reader, and when her failing eye sight threatened her love of reading, she turned to an audible reader, which allowed her to continue her enjoyment of books.

Her strong Christian faith helped her to always remain positive throughout her life.  The love God had shown to her was reflected upon all those whom Nora met.  She was so welcoming to anyone she met and loved people with all of the compassion any person could muster.  She was wholly devoted to her family and many dear friends; friendships she maintained and cherished for her whole life long.

Survivors include her children: R. Mac McWilliams and his partner, Jay Fishman; Richard (Sandy) McWilliams; former son-in-law: Rod (Laine) Mikkelson; former daughter-in-law: Jennifer McWilliams; 6 grandchildren: Nissa (Yuri) Grabowski, Corey (Stefanie) Mikkelson, Derek (Lauren) Mikkelson, Bryce (Casey) Mikkelson, Jessica (Rick) Humke, Crystal McWilliams and friend Austin Smith; and 3 great grandchildren: Asha Grabowski, Finley Mikkelson, Olivia Humke. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Nora was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Dud; a daughter: Laurie Mikkelson; and 2 brothers: Sheldon “Bud” (LaVonne) Gerth & Glenn “Mick” (Ruth & Doris) Gerth.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Monday, April 2, 2018 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert with Rev. Mark Krueger & Brian Crane officiating.  Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona, Wisconsin.  Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until 10:15 am on Monday, April 2, 2018.
Memorials given in the name of Nora V. McWilliams are appreciated for St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert or Bethesda Lutheran Communities.

Nora’s family would like to thank the entire staff of Manitowoc Health & Rehab Center as well as the staff from Compassus Hospice for all of the loving care that was given to her.
