Ruth M. Roll, age 90, of Chilton, died on Friday, September 1, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton.  She was born June 12, 1927, the daughter of the late Edmund A. & Eleanor (Whitby) George.  Ruth married Philip M. Roll on May 5, 1956 in Chilton.

She worked as a secretary for Attorney Jerome Fox for many years and later as a secretary at the Calumet County Courthouse.  She was a member of Ebenezer UCC where she served as a church teller, served on committees and sang in the choir for 35 years.  She loved reading, traveling, theatre presentations, museums and playing bridge.  Ruth had an uncanny ability to create delicious home made meals which brought those she loved together to share stories and each others’ company.

Ruth was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and The Chilton Women’s Club. She served as secretary for the Brothertown Union Cemetery Association and was the secretary of the United Fund of Chilton for 15 years.

Survivors include her four children: Thomas (Lynn) Roll, James (Ruth Bardenstein) Roll, Mary Roll, and Mike (Karen) Roll. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Jennifer (Aaron) McKay, Samuel Roll, Alexander Roll, Emily (Fred Thomas) Roll, Natalie Roll, An Van den Bulck, Amy Van den Bulck, Austin Roll, Luke Roll, Gina Roll; and her two great grandchildren: Hanna McKay & Brooklyn McKay.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Philip; a son-in-law: Eric Van den Bulck; and her brother: Lyle (Virginia) George.

Funeral service will be at 5:00 pm on Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until the time of the service on Friday, September 8, 2017.

I will always remember Ruth as a sweet, kind, and caring wonderful person. She always had a smile on her face and because of that she always brighten my days. She was so proud of her kids and grandkids. Always was talking about them... and specially her daughter and law. (Karen Rae). She used to tell me how God blessed her with her daughter and law. She loved reading books. She had such a bright soul. I loved her smile and the way that she is to treat me. She was a very special person to me. Ruth, you always thought that I was taking care of you... but the truth is that you took care of me. Because when I was having a bad day you always cheered me up. Thank you for being you. I will always miss you :(

Joan Brown (friend) - Sept. 5, 2017

We remember Ruth as a dedicated wife and mother. She made us feel at home and appreciated immediately.
She was very proud of what she was standing for and what she achieved together with Phil. In the frist place their nice family, extending the spirit of sharing and caring for each other!
We will remember her friendly and easy personality, able to get along with almost anyone.
But she knew well what she wanted and what she could achieve and achieved!
She had the spirit of surviving and of independence, just like the first settlers. She remained true to the spirit of freedom and self esteem as established so well by their ancestors.
We admired her spirit to continue reading, playing bridge, staying on top of the family and friend's news...
In short, she was a great lady, deserving our respect. We are very thankful to have known Ruth and to have been among her friends!

I met Ruth a couple summers ago while working at Century Ridge. She was so gracious, poised and down to earth. I absolutely loved caring for her as she was one of my favorites. I admired her love of reading and her warm, pleasant demeanor. My sincere sympathy to the family.
