Alice decided to further her education in teaching and attended Oshkosh State College where she received a degree in elementary education.  She taught school for 39 years and 23 of that was with the New Holstein Public Schools.

Alice was a lifelong member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Chilton and a life member of the Calumet Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.  She was also a lifelong member of the Ledge View Nature Center and also served on the library board and volunteered with the American Red Cross and the Ebenezer United Church of Christ.

Alice enjoyed flower gardening and love all of nature.  She loved to play Bridge and Sheepshead, enjoyed cooking and baking and loved to dance.  Most of all, Alice enjoyed a jolly good time with family and friends.

Please accept my condolences for your loss. Alice was a wonderful friend. She will be dearly missed. She was always an inspiration for me, and I could count on her sitting next to me at church. I know that she is now at peace.

Miss Mortimer was my 3rd grade teacher and my favorite of any elementary teacher I had. She had the kindest heart and the dearest smile. Children know goodness.

A very lovely lady has joined her family in heaven. I can envision the seafoam candy, cookies, baked beans and German potato salad that was waiting for her prepared with love by the heavenly relatives. What joy there is in heaven today. I have so many memories of Alice when I would visit Grandma Lorena Sohrweide. I usually had to visit Flora and Alice with something. That was quite the neighborhood with Grandma Sohrweide, the Schaffs, the Mortimers and the Grafs. We come from a long heritage through the Graf side. Alice was one of mom's (Adeline) friends and mom liked her conversations with Alice. As a child I remember being told that I looked just like Alice Mortimer. Rest in peace, Alice and may God Bless the family who loved her so very much.

I got to know Alice while my parents lived at Century Ridge. What a lovely positive person! Sure enjoyed our games of sheepshead together, despite her limited vision she knew exactly what to play and counted cards faster than anyone. Will miss you Alice!
My sincere sympathy to her family and friends.
