Andrew N Bartel
Marytown WI
Andrew N. Bartel, age 96, of Marytown, died peacefully, in the presence of his family on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Villa Loretto in Mt. Calvary. He was born July 26, 1926 in Marytown, son of the late Hubert & Caroline (Loehr) Bartel.
Andrew proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in World War II, seeing action in Okinawa. Upon cessation of hostilities, he participated in the Repatriation of Japanese forces from China. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he took advantage of the recently enacted GI Bill to attend the University of Wisconsin, prompting a lifelong love of learning. He graduated in 1950 with a degree in Dairy Science from the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
Andrew moved back to the area and began volunteering as a 4H leader where he met the love of his life attempting to coordinate different clubs’ endeavors. They were able to collaborate, and following their marriage, he and Carolyn worked side by side operating their mink ranch outside of Marytown and later retiring to their cottage on Lake Winnebago. They were married for 63 years.
As a dedicated member of his community, Andrew served as the first School Board President of the Consolidated Parochial Elementary Schools (CPES). He dedicated countless hours of his life coaching little league and established the Holy Land Girls Softball league in the mid 1970’s.
He was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown singing bass in the choir. Andy was a founding member of the Marytown Veteran’s Club and a member of the Marine Corps League in Fond du Lac. With his dedication to the mink ranch, at various times, Andrew served terms on the Board of Directors and as president for both the Kettle Moraine Mink Ranchers’ Association, and the Great Lakes Mink Association. He was also a member of EMBA (the Mutation Breeders Association). He took up carving in his retirement, and was "working on his Spanish" at his death.
He will be greatly missed and fondly be remembered by all those who loved him. Survivors include his children: JoAnn Hoelscher (Kevin dec.), Andrea (Mike) Bartel-Riffle, Bill (Kathy) Bartel, Dave Bartel, Tom Bartel, Gregg (Julie) Bartel, Mary (Tim Mueller) Bartel; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Carolyn; a son: Joseph; a grandchild: Adam; and his siblings and siblings-in-law.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Our Lady of the Holy Land Parish, St. Mary's in Marytown with Rev. Paul Koenig O.F.M. Cap. And Rev. Gary Wegner O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until 11:45 am on Saturday, October 15, 2022. For those wishing to watch a live stream or archived recording of the service, view a memorial video, or view flowers or gifts given to the family may do so by clicking HERE.
In lieu of flowers, Andrew requested that contributions be made to the Cristo Rey Ranch in Mt. Calvary, in recognition of the work done by Sr. Stephen and her staff.
Andrew’s family would like to extend a sincere and grateful ‘thank you’ to the entire staff of Villa Loretto for all of the loving care that was given to both Andrew and his entire family.

Condolences
My sympathies to all of the Bartel children. SO many memories of seeing your whole family at the ages of those in the photos. So GOOD to see all of you in pictures and listening to the church service. Prayers of comfort and strength as you grieve your dads death, but thankful for the good times in life that he had and now serving our Lord in Heaven!
