Arthur R Levknecht

Stockbridge WI

Arthur R. Levknecht, age 96, of Stockbridge, died on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Thedacare Medical Center in Appleton.  He was born on August 9, 1929 in Appleton, son of the late Ronald & Gertrude (Goeser) Levknecht.

He was born and raised in Kimberly, Wisconsin and was a proud graduate of Kimberly High School.  In 1951, Art began his time with the United States Army.  During the time of the Korean War as he was stationed over seas, and based on his ability to find his way around the kitchen, Art was nominated by his unit to be their full time cook.  It was also during this time, he found moments to hone his bowling skills and was chosen to be on the General’s bowling team.

Following his Honorable Discharge, Arthur returned to the Eastern Shores of Lake Winnebago where he married Dorothy Ann Lefeber on January 15, 1955.  They lived together by the lake and he would be found hunting and fishing in that area with his wife and taught his children the same skills.  He worked in the Kimberly Paper Mill his entire working career and retired in 1992.

During their lives together, Art tended diligently to his garden and raised peppers for their famous Hot Pepper Mix which was known far and wide throughout the eastern side of Lake Winnebago.  He never forgot to give thanks to all of his dedicated employees by speaking kindly of them and providing each and every one of them with a roof over their head and a meal at the end of the day.

When he had any moment of time available, Art could be found on Lake Winnebago.  If it was frozen, he was drilling holes to find cold white bass or sturgeon spearing, and during the summer, he could be found fishing for perch or walleye.  With all of his catches, he would put his haul to good use by sharing with friends and family and was most known for his smoked varieties.

When he wasn’t out fishing or spending time in the great outdoors, he kept his bowling skills in tact with Dorothy at the Harbor Bar each and every week during bowling season.  They also managed to take an annual trip to Las Vegas to take in the sites.  When in Wisconsin, he and Dorothy made a lot of friends on the many casino trips throughout the area.

Survivors include his children: Linda Bechlem, Bill (Jayne) Levknecht, Judy Haske, Kathy (Jim) Groeschel, Dawn (Gerald-Bart) Bartel, Jim (Xiang) Levknecht; grandchildren: Kelly Bechlem, Joshua (Jo) Bechlem, Maria Bechlem, Chris Bechlem, Bill (Jessie) Levknecht, Jr., John (Ann) Levknecht, Mike (Tabetha) Brocker, Mindy (Fritz) Richard, Stephanie Brocker and her special friend, Frank Renn, Cameron (Sinead) Groeschel, Tyler Bartel and his special friend, Leah Vande Hey, Kyle (Liz) Bartel, Michael Bartel, Kayla Debauche & Yan Lin; 28 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren with another arriving soon; his brother: Lee (Jane) Levknecht; and his siblings-in-law: Jeanne Levknecht-Lamers and Lila Lefeber.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Dorothy; an infant daughter: Mary Levknecht; his grandchildren: Ben Levknecht, Zendaya Groeschel, Harper Ludwig, Samantha Bartel; a son-in-law: Mike Haske; his siblings: “Toots” (“Bully”) Jansen, Lyle (Marilyn) Levknecht, Kenneth Levknecht; and his siblings-in-law: Al (Esther) Lefeber, Walter Lefeber, Marvin (Marion) Lefeber, Jim (Jean) Lefeber, Helmuth Lefeber, Marie (Sevrin) Meier, Marge (Donald) Hawley, Robert Lefeber and Betty Krause.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 12, 2026 at St. Mary Catholic Church (Military Road) in Stockbridge with Rev. Michael Betley officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Stockbridge.  A time of visitation will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church from 11:00 am until 12:45 pm on Monday, January 12, 2026.  At the time of the service, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a livestream or archived recording of the service, view a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.
