Benedict J Meier
Chilton, WI

Benedict J. Meier, age 83, of Chilton, went to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 18, 2019, with his loving wife at his side at Ascension Calumet Hospital in Chilton, following a long battle with cancer. He was born July 23, 1935, to Anton and Margaret (Franzen) Meier.

Benedict attended St. Mary’s Catholic School thru 8th grade and then had to help his parents on the family farm. On October 3, 1964, he married Arlene Arenz at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chilton, where they made their home. He was a member, and former usher, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He also belonged to, and was still an active member of the Kohler Quarter Century Club and Union Local No. 833.

In his childhood and young adult years, Benedict helped work the family farm as well as helped other local farmers. In 1955, he started working at Kohler Company in Kohler, WI. He retired from Kohler after 42 years of employment. Benedict also enjoyed tending bar at Kloten Oasis and many other places.  After his retirement, he drove for the ADRC (Aging & Disability Resource Center) as a volunteer until his health deteriorated.

Ben and Arlene enjoyed taking bus trips within the U.S., making many new friends along the way. Ben also enjoyed time spent camping with his family. He enjoyed picking out hickory nuts, putting puzzles together, and doing word search puzzles.

The place that Ben and Arlene made the best of friends and memories was their summer home in Shawano, WI, which they purchased in 1991. Even though his health had been deteriorating, Arlene made sure to take him to Shawano to enjoy the place he dearly loved.

Benedict is survived by his wife of 54 years, Arlene; his two children: Steve (Debra) Meier and Linda Jensen; four grandchildren: Chris (Gayle) Uttech, Dylan Radder, Blake Meier, and Aaliyah Jensen; and three great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two brothers: Melvin (Rosie) Meier and Br. Ray Meier; two sisters: Marian Loehr and Margaret Voss; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives.

Benedict was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Margaret Meier; his mother- and father-in-law: Sylvester and Florence Arenz; one brother: Eddie Meier; one sister: Dorothy Diedrich; and four brothers-in-law: Walter Loehr, Donald Diedrich, Daniel Arenz, and Dennis Arenz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30am on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton, with Fr. Jon Thorsen presiding. Friends may call from 3:00pm until 8:00pm on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton, and from 9:00am until 11:00am on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at the funeral home. A vigil prayer service will take place at the funeral home following Tuesday evening’s visitation.

Benedict’s family would like to express their heart-felt appreciation to the Chilton Ambulance Service and the wonderful staff at Ascension Calumet Hospital.
Sincere sympathy to the entire Meier family. I have fond memories of them all while working at the Loehr farm over the summers growing up. Everyone helped each other. Benny was lots of fun to be around. I feel lucky to have known him and all the family.

Warren Bartash (First cousin to Marian's husband Walter Loehr) - July 22, 2019

Thoughts and prayers are with the family. Always enjoyed talking to Ben & Arlene at UAW 833 union meetings.

Al & Sue Ammerman (Friend ) - July 20, 2019
