Benjamin W Daun

Brothertown WI

Benjamin Walter Daun, age 87, of Brothertown, died on Monday, March 18, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton surrounded by his loving wife and children.  He was born April 21, 1936 in the Town of Brothertown, son of the late Charles & Magdalena (Rollmann) Daun.  Ben married Elizabeth “Bette” Pfeifer on May 9, 1959 at Assumption Catholic Church in Pulaski.

Ben was born and raised on the Daun family farm, and together he and Bette made their livelihood and reared their children. He cherished time spent on the tractor tending to the land and herd that he loved.  He kept honey bees and enjoyed making homemade maple syrup each and every spring. Ben enjoyed conversations with friends and family, attending cattle auctions, old country music, playing Sheepshead.  In his last years,  Ben served as the elder of the great city of Charlesburg.

Ben also appreciated time spent outdoors hunting and ice fishing, logging woods, and watching the birds in his family park.  He was a “gentle giant” who lived life to its fullest, but above all loved moments he was able to spend with his family, especially holding the little ones and watching their personalities grow.

Survivors include his wife: Bette; his children: Bernadette Daun and her fiance, Robert Bozile, Brenda (George) Baus, Brian Daun; 6 grandchildren: Kurtis (Katie) Baus, Matthew (Natalie) Baus, Natalie (Nolan) Steenberg, Magdaline Baus and her special friend, Chris Modlin, Mitchell (Lauren) Daun, Payton Daun and her fiancé Rory Welch; great grandchildren: Heidi, Tilly, & Eloise Baus, Lila & Roman Steenberg, Logan, Hayden & Teagan Daun, Greyson Welch; and his siblings: Carol Northway, Carl (Beverly) Daun, & Virginia (Gary) Bonlander.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings:  Marie (Robert) Gust, Genevieve Daun, Cordula (Robert) Keltesch, Theresa (Tullio) Nucciarone, Rita (Leroy) Drake, Dorothy (Anthony) Nadler & 4 infant siblings.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with Rev. Jon Thorson and Rev. Carl Diedrichs concelebrating.  Burial will be in the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in Charlesburg.  A time of visitation will be held at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 21, 2024 and on Friday at the funeral home from 8:30 am until 9:30 am.  There will be a vigil service held at the funeral home on Thursday evening at the close of the visitation.  At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a memorial video or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.

Ben's family would like to thank the first responders, the medical staff at Ascension Calumet Medical Center, and the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital for the care that was given to both Ben and his entire family, as well as all of the thoughts and prayers that were offered during this time.

To Bette and Family Sorry to hear of Ben’s passing. A lot of good memories from the Charlesburg community back in the day and always seeing the smiles on Ben and Bette’s face. Remember the good times and cherish the photos you made and always keep Ben close to your heart. May God bless Ben and the ones he left behind.

My deepest and sincerest sympathies to the entire Daun family. Remember going to the farm as a youngster with my Grandpa Bob. Grandpa always said “that Uncle Ben is an instigator” whenever Ben had me do something Grandpa didn’t “care” for! Wish all of you well in this very difficult time.
