CHARLOTTE A PETHAN

Our hearts were broken as we learned on January 10, 2022, our mother, Charlotte A Pethan, Hilbert, age 83, had passed after a short illness.  She is now reunited with her husband, Eugene, in heaven.

She was born February 13, 1938 to the late Hugo and Marie (Karls) Nennig and was raised on a farm in Chilton.

She married Eugene Pethan on January 9, 1957 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge and raised five children in Hilbert.  She was a loving and generous wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.

Char worked at the Hilbert Cheese Factory, Bonk, Lutz & Hertel as a legal secretary, and Pethan’s Service Station as a bookkeeper. As she eased into her retirement years, she enjoyed her time as a bookkeeper and tax preparer.  All Char’s clients quickly became lifelong friends.

She loved her time with family, work, Packer games, and road trips with her friends, Colleen and Phyllis. She was also always welcoming to other people who had nowhere else to go for the holidays.

Char was very active in her community as treasurer of the Ox Bow Sportman’s Club for many years, served food to the elderly for Meals on Wheels, helped with elections, served on the Hilbert Revitalization Group and many other civic activities. She was also a member of St. Mary  Christian Mothers and St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert.

We will miss her kind and loving heart and compassionate ways.  We love you Mom!

Charlotte is survived by her five children, Jim Pethan, JoAnne (Mike) Boll, Greg (Jean) Pethan, Ray (Sara) Pethan, Lynn (Dan) Gast; five grandchildren, Andy (Kirsten) Pethan, Brad Gast, Lee (Kalli) Pethan, Brook (Luke) Thornton, Tom (Laura) Pethan;  10 great grandchildren, Harper & Roman Pethan; Jocelyn, Lukas, Juliana & Eliana Pethan; Will, Audrey, Violet & Jude Pethan; a sister, Marge (Jim) FitzGerald; two brothers, Lloyd Nennig, Sidney (Carla) Nennig; a sister-in-law, Mary (Stan) Genslak; four brothers-in-law, Meryl (Deanie) Pethan, Joe (Debbie) Pethan, Paul Pethan, Roger Pethan. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Pethan; her father & mother, Hugo & Marie Nennig; her father & mother-in-law, Gilbert & Lydia Pethan; a brother, Hugo Nennig, Jr; a brother & sister-in-law, Kenneth & Vera Nennig; a sister & brother-in-law, Delores & James Mix; a sister-in-law, Victoria Pethan.

Funeral Services will be at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert, with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church at 108 S. 6th St., Hilbert, from 10:00am to 11:45am. Wieting Family Funeral Home in Chilton is assisting the family. So saddened to learn of Charlotte's passing. She will bee sorely missed by her family and all who knew her. She was loved by all. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Mary (Nennig) Ronk (Cousin) - Jan. 26, 2022

Words cannot convey how sorry my husband and I are for the loss of your mother. Last minute changes needed to be made today that prevent me from attending her funeral service. Prayers and thoughts, however, are with you all.
Char was my first friend ever (Twain School classmate) and best friend until distance and family life changed that, but we still kept in touch. As we knew each other for nearly 80 years, I will miss her greatly.
May God bless you and your families,, and keep you safe.

Charlotte was my Godmother. She was married to my first cousin, Eugene Pethan. I remember a Christmas present she gave me one year when I was about 10. My Mom and I had been in a store in Chilton that's not there anymore (I can't remember the name - this would have been in the early 70's - Pendelton's maybe?). Anyway, there was this pair of purple polyester pants that had a wide fluorescent pink pleather belt on it with swirling pink squiggly lines going down the side of the legs and I just had to have them. My Mom wouldn't buy them for me and I was so disappointed. Well, much to my surprise, there they were along with a package of three Santa soaps when I opened up my Christmas present from Charlotte that year! I was SO happy! I have no idea what I would have worn with a crazy pair of pants like that. Many years later at a family function I mentioned this very story to Charlotte and she said that she remembered buying those pants for me. We both had a good laugh over it. May you RIP Godmother Charlotte! Thanks for the pants!!!
