Sherwood WI
Clarence Zahringer, age 107, of Sherwood, died at the Landings in Kaukauna on September 29, 2025. He was born on July 23, 1918 on a farm outside of Sherwood, son of the late Nicholas and Amelia (Puetz) Zahringer.
He grew up during the Great Depression and was a drum major for the Sherwood 4H Band. As a young man, he moved to West Bend to find work and it was there that he met his future wife, Margert. Clarence was drafted into World War II and he proudly served his country in the 8th army Air Force as an Army Nurse stationed in England.
Following his Honorable Discharge, Clarence married Margert Serwe on November 6, 1944 in Theresa, Wisconsin. For 58 years they remained side by side until she preceded him in death in 2002.
Following in the footsteps of his father-in-law, Clarence became a barber and tended to the hair of many people in the Sherwood area from 1954 until well after his 100th birthday.
Clarence was instrumental in the incorporation of the Village of Sherwood and served as the first village President from 1968 until 1994.
Faith and community was of utmost importance to Clarence. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus as well as volunteering countless hours with the Sherwood Lions Club.
As a proud veteran, Clarence also was an active member of the American Legion Post #496 in Sherwood. He was a devout Catholic and was a long time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood.
Survivors include his son: Ron; his grandchildren: Bill, David & Melissa Zahringer; and 5 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Margert; a son: Mark; his siblings: Leo (Mabel) Zahringer, Walter (Catherine) Zahringer, Roman Zahringer, Irvin Zahringer, Ann Zahringer, Anita (Al) Hemauer, Alvina (Arthur) Campbell and Rose (Arthur) Hemauer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Friday, October 3, 2025 at St. John Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the Sacred Heart Parish from 9:00 am until 10:45 am on Friday, October 3, 2025. At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a live stream or archived recording of the service, watch a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.
The Zahringer family would like to thank the entire staff from The Landings in Kaukauna, as well as the nurses and staff of St. Croix Hospice for all of the care and compassion that they provided to Clarence as well as his entire family.

One of a kind. An inspiration too many on how to live a full life. I always enjoyed our conversations and the time I did get to spend with him. I will always remember how he carried himself. A true leader.

Clarence was a wonderful person; he would come talk to us often and share stories about the area. He always had a cheerful way about him and greeted us with a neighborly wave from his porch when we would come home. Our neighborhood won't be the same without him.

Sadly, I only knew Uncle Clarence in his later years. My wife Lu & I visited him at his home whenever we visited our family in Wisconsin. Clarence knew family history and had many pictures to share and the stories to go along with them! His deep faith is an example to all of us! He will continue to live in all of our hearts. Heaven will be a true joy being with Clarence & Margaret!

Clarence was an interesting man. He lived the history that many of us studied and liked to share stories about the community. He cut Greg’s hair right up until COVID! Bless his soul and may he rest in peace.

I think what stood out was his faithfulness to God. Watching him walk to church no matter the weather or his age! A real model for many

My mother worked at the eye doctor in the old bank.I remember as a child going down to see her with my father and brother for diner, and Clarence and Margaret would be together closing up the barber shop. He was always such a wonderful kind man to my brother and myself. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. And Margaret was always sweet as can be. He will be truly missed. He is an example of the love and kindness of the village of Sherwood, and from a generation we should model ourselves after. Thank you Clarence for all you’ve done for the place I’m so proud to call home!
