Clifford R "Cliff" Schaffer
Hilbert WI
Clifford R. “Cliff” Schaffer, age 87, of Hilbert, died on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at his home with his wife by his side. He was born January 7, 1937, son of the late Anthony and Eulalia Schaffer. Shortly after graduating from Hilbert High School, Class of 1955, he married Viola Bungean and they were together over 67 years until his passing.
Cliff was a union carpenter all of his life, using his skills at Zachek Construction, Hedrich Construction, and Lunda Construction, where he finished his career. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and he was a lifetime member of the Ox Bow Sportsman’s Club. Daily, Cliff made sure to read the newspaper and enjoyed picking up a good book. He liked being outside to do yard work or to pick wild asparagus with his dogs by his side. His friends always appreciated when Cliff would be on the lake during sturgeon spearing because they knew that he would tend to the grill and hand deliver food to each and every shanty. In the evenings, Cliff cherished moments at the campfire staring into the ever-changing flames collecting his thoughts, and roasting marshmallows with his dogs right nearby. Indoors, Cliff was always up for a good game of Sheepshead with friends and family.
Above all else, Cliff was a man of faith and family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and going to their special events, especially when it involved his favorite sport - basketball.
Cliff is survived by his wife, Viola; his children: Michael (Barbara) Schaffer of Menasha, Pamela Schaffer of Valencia, CA, Jacqueline Schaffer (fiancé, Scott Rasmussen) of Appleton, and Lisa (Ed) Marvin of Waupaca; his grandchildren: Dustin (Shana) Hayes, Alissa Schaffer (Brad DeLeeuw), Amber DeLeeuw (Thomas), and Brittany McCarville (Brett); great-grandchildren: Presley Hayes, Brady DeLeeuw, Sawyer McCarville, and Peyton McCarville; siblings: Judith See and Andy (Nancy) Schaffer; and a sister-in-law: Diane Schaffer. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, too many to mention, other relatives and friends.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Eulalia; and siblings: Ermin Schaffer, his twin brother, Clayton Schaffer, and John (Susan) Schaffer; and a brother-in-law: Sylvester See.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, July 29, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church (120 S. 6th St.) in Hilbert, with Fr. Michael Betley officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 pm until 2:45 at the church on the day of services. A committal service will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Hilbert immediately following the funeral service. At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a recording of the service, watch a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.

Our condolences to Vi and her immediate and extended family on Cliff's passing. Many years of hunting and fishing leave me with cherished memories as we grew up together. Although I have been away from Hilbert for over 50 years, Cliff was never far from my thoughts. No more deck pours for either of us. May you rest in peace, Big Fellow! Your little brother Andy.
