Darryll H Turney
New Holstein, WI

Darryll H. Turney, age 86, of New Holstein, died on January 16, 2019 at Libby’s House in Chilton.  He was born February 4, 1932 in Antigo, son of the late Hiram & Anna (Babeler) Turney.  Darryll married Doris Van Duser on March 21, 1953 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Elcho, Wisconsin.

Darryll's early working career included being a pin setter at a bowling alley, working at a plywood company in Rhinelander, working at a mink ranch in Elcho, working at a factory in Milwaukee, installing barn cleaners and raising silos at local farms throughout the area.

He later settled into a 33 year career with Tecumseh Engines in New Holstein as a supervisor. He received several awards for his inventions and improvements while at Tecumseh.

Darryll exhibited a strong work ethic not only at his job but at home as well.  He was a "fix it" kind of guy around the house and a great problem solver.  He was always looking for ways to improve things.

Darryll, being the perfectionist he was, took great pride in his yard, vehicles, lawn mower, the house he remodeled, and the garage he built.

Darryll, his wife Doris, and their 6 children kept themselves busy tending to a huge garden and caring for various animals.

Darryll often enjoyed playing sheepshead with family or friends, whom he loved dearly.

He had a sense of humor and enjoyed being silly making others laugh.  Darryll was the best when it came to riding a bicycle backwards.

Survivors include his children: Dennis (JoAnn) Turney, Christine (Ed) Hartmann, David (Laura) Turney, Debra Turney, Robert (Kim) Turney, Cathy (Paul) Dreiling; 15 grandchildren: Charlotte, Douglas, Pamela, Gregory, Melissa, Danielle, William, Randi, Michael, Alyssa, Stephanie, Jaclyn, Marcus, Nicole, Rachelle; 9 great grandchildren: Collin, Cole, Jewel, Sawyer, Chase, Madeline, Abraham, Landen, Kendra, Leah; a great-great grandchild: Evelyn; 2 brothers: Dumaine “Red” (Judy) Turney, Melvin Turney; sisters-in-law: June Rabideau, Janice Van Duser; and brothers-in-law: Charles (Rowena) Van Duser.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Darryll was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; Doris; 2 grandchildren: Joseph & Robert; step siblings: Jerry (Marie) Stern, Eugene Stern, Lorraine Keys; sisters-in-law: Verna (George) Schramke, Janie Turney; and brothers-in-law: Jim Rabideau & Erhard “Babe” Van Duser.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church (1702 Van Buren St.) in New Holstein with Rev. Azor Cigelski officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Holstein Countryview Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, January 21, 2019 and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 am until 10:45 am.
Always a fun time at the Turney's house. Lots of laughter and fun! Uncle Darryll was always at the ready with some kind of story or joke to tell us all. A very loving family man and even though I didn't see much of him these past years, I kept up with him through my mom and thought of him often. You will be missed!
