David G Neuber
Chilton WI
David G. Neuber, age 89, of Chilton, died on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Ascension Calumet Hospital in Chilton. He was born May 29, 1935 in the Town of Stockbridge, son of the late Gregory & Ottilia (Hanke) Neuber.
David was a proud graduate of Chilton High School where he was an integral part of the 94 Trap play which helped secure the conference championship in 1952. It was this play in particular that David loved to share with anyone who would be willing to listen throughout his living days.
After his graduation from high school, David honorably served in the United States Army in Korea and lent his football skills to the Army team while he served. During his time of service, he made a name for himself with the local villagers because of his care and concern for their well being and continually sharing his ration of cigarette, providing them income. Legend has it, following his honorable discharge, David returned to the United States and talked directly to Vince Lombardi about playing for his beloved Green Bay Packers, but was told “you're too small, go home”.
However, what can be verified is that he married the love of his life, Sharon Leitner on June 21, 1958 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho.
While learning the art of cheese making, David devoted much of his working career to the farm and raising of his family. During this time, he also picked up the tuba and would lend his talents to the Syl Groeschl Band and made sure to tend to the numerous black walnut trees he planted as little saplings.
Once in retirement, and much to his family’s surprise, David found solitude and recreation digging holes in the ground by hand, having made two ponds and creating a small park area where the grandchildren could camp and play. He was also well known by those far and wide for his ability to create delicious homemade wine and beer but excelled most in his famous homemade caramel popcorn and German potato salad recipes.
Survivors include his children: Terri (Mike) Mader, David B (Elizabeth) Neuber, Victoria (Dave) Halbach, James Neuber; a daughter-in-law: Cindy Neuber; grandchildren: Jason, Nic, David, Christine, Alexandria, Brandon, Dillon, Aleesha & Devin; 16 great grandchildren; a sister: Marion Graney; and his siblings-in-law: Marlene Neuber & Elroy “Herbie” Schreiner. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Sharon; a son: Gary; siblings: Alan Neuber, Ralph (Doris) Neuber, Ruth Schreiner; and a brother-in-law: Bob Graney.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 am on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with Rev. Jon Thorsen officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, October 4, 2024 and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 am until 11:15 am. There will be a parish vigil service at the funeral home at the close of the visitation Friday evening. At the time of the service, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a livestream or archived recording of the service, watch a memorial video, or see photos of the flowers and gifts given to the family.
