David J Miller
New Holstein, WI

David J. Miller, age 73, of New Holstein, died at his home on November 25, 2021. He was born July 4, 1948, son of the late John and Ruth Miller.
After high school, David was drafted and joined the United States Marine Corps, serving bravely in Vietnam. He liked the military so much that he eventually switched branches into the Army, serving over 20 years in total, from soldier to drill sergeant. He cared for his fellow veterans, helping any of them get the help they deserved, and he was happy to be a Service Officer for the Disabled American Veterans. He gave back to his community, volunteering for Habitat For Humanity, and being a member of the Optimist Club. He was proud of his children, grandchildren, and his military service. His name was not David Miller - it was David Miller, USMC.
David is survived by his sons: Jonathan Miller (Lezlie Weber) and Brian Miller; a step-daughter: Chris Steinpreis; two grandchildren: Sgt. Branden (Hannah) Capetillo and Maggie Miller; a great-grandchild: Leonidas Capetillo; and sisters: Alice (Jim) Schneider and Lila Miller (Steve Sadowski).
David was preceded in death by his wife: JoAnn Cummings; his parents: John and Ruth; a sister: Marilyn Miller; and a brother: Glen Miller.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 pm, Friday, December 3, 2021, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm at the funeral home on the day of the service. To view a memorial video or flowers given to the family please click HERE

Susie Woelfel (Jon and Brian’s aunt) - Dec. 3, 2021

David had been part of the Gravesville Gang with Whittier School being the cornerstone of the community until it was closed. He was in the last 8th grade graduation class. I was lucky to be his neighbor and classmate.
We had no real contact in Highschool.
It was Sept. of 2016 when we reconnected at a small Gravesvile gathering prior to our 50th H.S. reunion. Although I never met David in person since that time, it tirggered a history of phone calls.
Our adult lives were very different but the common denominator was Gravesville and our camaraderie as young kids. Hour long chats were our usual.
The last time I spoke with David was on Veterans Day..
I am truly saddened.

My deepest sympathy to the Miller family at this time of loss and grief.

Barbara Wagner (Childhood neighbor) - Nov. 29, 2021

Thank you for all the great things you did for our family. Rest in peace my big brother.

Lila (sister) - Nov. 29, 2021

My deepest sympathy to the family of David. David was a classmate of mine at CHS class of 1966. Like David, I joined the Marines after high school, so we are brothers in the Corps. We were both in the CHS band and enjoyed good times during those teenage years. I always enjoyed his friendship and so proud of him as a fellow Marine and serviceman dedicated to upholding the freedoms of our great country. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Tom Cullen
