Denis J Karls
Stockbridge, WI

Denis J. Karls, age 65, of Stockbridge, passed away suddenly due to complications from pancreatic cancer on February 28, 2021, at St. Paul Elder Care Services in Kaukauna. He was born June, 27, 1955, in Fond du Lac, son of the late John and Betty Karls.

Denis was a great guy with a huge heart, and would do anything for anybody. He was happy to ring bells for the Salvation Army every December since his retirement. He had a soft spot for animals, especially his dog, Spud, and his brother’s dog, Dexter, and he was always happy to make a donation to the Humane Society. He was very sports-minded, a true Wisconsin sports fan, enjoying the Brewers, Bucks, Badgers, and Packers. He enjoyed playing games against his brothers and was tough to beat once he got a little older. He would spend hours in the basement with them playing ping-pong or shooting pool. They even snuck in games of basketball at their parents’ hardware store when no one was around. He was a member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stockbridge and joined the Stockbridge Fire Department for a short time. He liked the old black-and-white “creep show” movies and retro TV shows.

Denis is survived by his siblings: Richard (Joan) Karls, Kristin (Butch) Danes, and Brian (Deborah) Karls; nieces and nephews: Nicky (Tara) Platten, Carrie (Kurt) Bratz, Megan (David Raba, husband) Karls, Jestin (Peggy) Danes, and Jerad (Brittany) Danes; and great-nieces and -nephews: Emma Platten, Ethan and Shaun Bratz, Corbin, Della, Archie, and Wrennie Jo Danes, and Brynlee Danes.

Denis was preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty; a sister: Ellen (Mike) Platten; and his dog: Spud.

A funeral service has been scheduled for 1:00pm on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at St. Mary of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church (120 Davis St.) in Stockbridge, with Fr. Michael Betley presiding. Friends may call at the church from 9:30am until 12:45pm on the day of service. Denis will be laid to rest following the service at the St. Mary Cemetery in Stockbridge. Those who wish may watch a live stream of the service, view flowers given, or see a recording of the service by clicking HERE.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Chilton State Bank of Stockbridge for going above and beyond their normal duties to help Denis, as well as the staff at St. Paul Elder Care for the special care they gave their brother.
Things I remembered: What Denis Loved: #1 His Family, Green Bay Packers, Brewers, Shooting Hoops, playing softball behind the church with all of us as kids, John Deere, mowing his lawn 2 maybe 3 times a week, his childhood home, his kindness, his big heart, always said thank you, always shared a smile, My friend, I will miss seeing you drive by and stopping at my Mom's when I come home, You will forever hold a special place in my heart. You were truly "my friend". You were one of a kind and the best neighbor anyone could ever ask for. Sending my sympathy and love to your family.

Following college a long time ago, I spent a few years on our family farm. I was always running to Stockbridge for supplies. Denis was always very kind and helpful, he was always a bright spot in my day. He was very interested in what we were working on and very knowledgable of all the inventory in the store. A few years ago I ran into him and it was like being back 35 years. Every time I drive by the old store I always think of Denis. The world needed more people like him. He was a good one.

About 7 years ago Denis saw me and said "hey Lynnie I love your Christmas lights" So 2 days later I bought him the same lights and while he was at work lit them up for him. He came home and called me over. We stood in the road as it snowed and he cried. He said it was beautiful. After my car accident he checked on me often especially if he saw me outside. He was on of the few that I allowed to call me Lynnie. On his walk past our house he would sometimes have a cold one on the porch. My heart hurts that I will not see him but there is no more suffering. Dennie your Dicks boasted chicken is in my freezer.

My meeting Denis was way back in 1St grade when I stole a candy bar from him and he thought my name was Susie Lemoneck. Many years later you would come over on Sunday evenings and watch sports with Dave. Over the years you were always so kind to our family with thoughtful things like getting Mom a broasted chicken dinner last year when dad passed or always a wave & a hi when any of us saw you. It was so nice seeing you out walking all the time. Rest easy Denny may Jesus give your family peace comfort ??
