Dennis E Bowe
Hilbert, WI

Dennis E. Bowe, age 72, of Hilbert, died on October 25, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. He was born February 16, 1949, son of the late Robert and Arlyne Bowe. He married Carol Leitner on July 17, 1971, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hilbert, and together they had three children.

Dennis met Carol while they were in high school. Prior to being drafted into the Army during Vietnam, they were engaged. After he proudly served his country and returned home, they were married. He worked for Tecumseh most of his life, working his way up to line supervisor before retiring. He was known as a man who could fix anything, from bikes to radios to computers. He even earned the nickname “Bicycle” for the ability to work on bikes. He loved fishing, spending as much time as he could on Lake Winnebago fishing for perch and walleye (but only when the water was open, no ice fishing for him).  His winter hobby was snowmobiling and he also taught snowmobile safety classes for many years.  He was an avid Sheephead player and would gladly take your nickels. For his service to our country, he was able to be on an Honor Flight in 2019; a program that pays tribute to our veterans with a flight to Washington, D.C.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Carol; their children: Pam (Jesse) Riesterer, Craig (Mariann) Bowe, and Corey (Kori) Bowe; six grandchildren: Justin (Taylor), Samantha (Kyle), Addison, Lucille, Rowan, and Hudson; two great-grandchildren: Ryker and Delilah; siblings: Diane (Ralph) Blatz and Steven (Cindy) Bowe; sisters-in-law: Janelle Bowe and Marlene (Clayton) Thornber; brother-in-law: James Leitner; and a good fishing buddy: Glenn Boehnlein.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Arlyne, and his brothers, Robert, Jr and James Bowe.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at the funeral home on the day of service. I only met Dennis briefly a few times during his visits to San Diego, but I can say for certain that he did one hell of a job raising a good man in Craig. May he rest in peace, and may the many memories comfort his family and friends in this difficult time.

So many memories for sure. But the best most treasured is when I met Dennis while I was dating my now husband Eric Schneider. Within minutes he declared we would be getting married. He was spot on. Eric and I are now married nearly 18 years and counting. He was always with a smile. And always making a joke about my lack of height. But would follow with a hug and a sweet smile. I will miss that the most. The hug and the smile. I am not only blessed to know Dennis and his family. But my two sons just tonight remembered him as another grandpa. Who could ask for more? God bless Dennis. You left a huge impact on our lives. And we will miss you forever. Until we meet again. Love you my friend. Love you forever.

Mary Schneider (Family friend) - Oct. 26, 2021
