Diane R Sattler
Chilton, WI

Diane R. Sattler, age 86, of Chilton, died on January 18, 2021, at Willowdale Nursing Home in New Holstein. She was born February 3, 1934, daughter of the late Fred and Edna Schmid. On August 1, 1951, she married Donald Sattler and they had four children.

Diane met Donald when she was in junior high and they were both at a church youth group outing at Waverly Beach to roller-skate. Diane fell, causing Don to fall on top of her. They ran into each other again at the fair that summer, and at several church outings until she was a freshman in high school where Don was a senior. When she graduated in 1951, he proposed.

Diane was a dedicated farm wife, living on her family’s Century Farm most of her life until 2019. During that time, she had several jobs in the area, including owning her own craft store, “N Everything Nice,” in Chilton. Most of her time away from the farm and raising her family was spent giving her time to groups and organizations that she cared about. She was a member of the FFA Alumni, head of the poll takers for town of Chilton for many years, a member of North East Wisconsin Sheep Breeders, judged arts and crafts at several county fairs, treasurer for the Calumet County Fair Board, fair superintendent, President of the Women's Guild for many years, Sunday School Teacher for a long time, and a  4H leader - earning her and Don spots in the Wisconsin 4H Hall of Fame. She enjoyed Homemakers Club trips and decorating church for Christmas and other holidays. When she wasn’t involved with activities outside of her home, Diane would spend her time knitting, crocheting, doing jigsaw puzzles, and doing crossword puzzles. Her love of needle work led her to knitting cancer caps and crocheting blankets for Harbor House.

Diane is survived by her husband, Donald; her children: Dexter Sattler (Jill Bertram), Donna (Don) Pingel, and Darren (Suzanne) Sattler; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law: Judy; siblings: Ralph (Jeanie) Schmid, David (Inga) Schmid, Karl (Judi) Schmid, Nancy Wanish, and Paul (Joan) Schmid; and a sister-in-law: Fran Schmid.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Edna; Donald’s parents: Bernhard and Meta Sattler; her son: Dwane Sattler; daughters-in-law: Lynn Sattler and Cheri Sattler; brother: Daniel Schmid; and in-laws: Vern Wanish, Mildred (Arnold) Jensen, Howard (Gloria) Sattler, and June (Milan) Gasch.

A memorial service will take place at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00am until 12:45pm on the day of service.

I remember when Diane had the Craft Shop in Chilton. I took our boys and we enjoyed sharing in Diane's crafty skills. As a HCE member (homemaker) it was always a joy to be in Diane's company. She was a very special lady!

As as a teenager, I recall visiting the Sattler family farm often, Mrs Sattler was always so nice to me while her husband Don gave me a hard time. Of course, in a fun way. Mrs. Sattler made sure I never went hungry. Also, one night 4 of us to include Dexter spent the night after a high school baseball victory and we had one heck of a good time.

Diane always had a smile. She was so proud of all her nativity sets and shared them during the season at church. Wonderful person inside and out. My prayers go out to the whole family.

My deepest smypathy goes out to your family. I have known your mother for what seems like forever. She was my 4-H leather craft teacher and that was a long time ago. She always had a smile on her face and a big hello for you no matter where you saw her

When Karl would come to the farm to visit during the summer, Aunt Diane would always have arts and crafts projects to do. It made his time there extra enjoyable, even when she made him eat liver, which he despised!

When I think of Diane, I think of her smile and cheerful attitude. I remember holiday visits and family gatherings. She was my baptismal sponsor and always held special place in my heart. My wife JoDee also enjoyed time with Diane as they shared a love of all crafting and working with youth at county fairs with their craft projects. I long to be with the family on Saturday, but with my exposure to the puplic on a daily basis, I don't want to put others at risk. My sympathies to the family and may God's peace be with you in the coming days.
