Donald D Vanne
Chilton, WI

Donald D. Vanne, age 88, of Dade City Florida, died on Sunday, June 19, 2022 surrounded by his children, at his son’s home in Chilton.  He was born February 7, 1934 in Two Rivers, son of the late Raymond & Rita (Lesperance) Vanne.  Don married Carol Mae Jost on February 9, 1952 at St. Luke’s in Two Rivers.  Together they had 14 children in 17 years. Carol preceded him in death on April 2, 2006.

In his working years, Donald began his career with GTE out of Two Rivers; first as a Lineman, and retired from his position as Midwest Building and Fleet Supervisor on December 14, 1988.  Don was extremely proud to have collected his pension from the company 2 years longer than he had been employed there.

He proudly served in the Army National Guard, volunteered as Scout Master for Chilton Boy Scout Troop 810, and was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Chilton;and in later years St. Anne Catholic Church in Dade City Florida.

As an excellent golfer, Don would golf 18 to 27 holes of golf a day until about 10 years ago.  He volunteered as the groundskeeper at the Town and Country RV Park in the months he resided there.  He kept detailed track of how many 5-gallon pails of leaves he collected every day during the 32 years he was there.  Don made many great friends during his years at the park from around America, including the wonderful Canadians that he got to know well. He enjoyed time painting and restoring yard decorations and loved to paint his 4,600 Christmas lights each year while he lived in Florida.  Above all else, he loved his family. Don took great pride in his care of his wife who was ill for many years.

Survivors include his children: Gerry (Patty) Vanne, Peggy Vanne, Debbie (late Peter Gau), Terrie (Mark) Sabel, Annette (Dennis) Feldman, Mary (Ray) Stafford, Susie (Jim) Yerkman, Laurie (Leighton) Blasing, Keith (Sue) Vanne, Becky (Duane) See; 27grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren; his siblings: Diane (Robert) Lawler, Joan (Floyd) Haines, Robert (Bonnie) Vanne, Jim (Lois) Vanne; and his siblings-in-law: Anna Marie Vanne.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Carol; 4 sons: Donald Jr., Peter, Paul, Michael Vanne; Son-in-law: Peter Gau; his brothers: Ed (Doris) Vanne, Randy Vanne, Richard (Shirley) Vanne;Sisters: Lorraine Schultz, Jeanette Dewey; and Siblings-in-laws, Allen (Dorothy) Jost, Lou Ann (Wayne) Durocher.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 am on Friday, July 1, 2022 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with Rev. Jon Thorson officiating.  Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery in Two Rivers.  Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until 11:15 am on Friday, July 1, 2022.  Those wishing to watch a live stream or archived recording of the service, watch a memorial video or view gifts and flowers given to the family may do so by clicking HERE.
