Donald F Richart
Hilbert, WI

Donald Francis Richart, our beloved Husband, Dad, Grandfather Great-Grandfather, Friend and Community Idol was called to be with our Lord in heaven on November 29, 2021 at the age of 91. Faith, Family, Country, a code Donald lived his entire life by, was born in Cazenovia WI on June 11, 1930 to George and Lucille (Durn) Richart.  As a very young boy he moved to Hilbert WI where he became part of the fabric that pulled and held that community together.

Donny was called upon by United States Army in 1951 to serve his country in the Korean War.  After the war, Donald returned home, a proud Veteran, and married the love of his life Dorothy (Fluhr) on October 17, 1953 at St. Mary’s Church in Chilton. Together they had 5 children. Donny was a devoted member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hilbert.

Donald worked many jobs in his life. He often told many stories about the jobs he held in his childhood years as a pin setter at the local bowling alley and helping farmers. He operated the Texaco Station in Hilbert with his dad, working for Kohler Company, janitor for St. Mary’s Church and School in Hilbert and the Village of Hilbert. He and his wife Dorothy owned and operated the Redwood Bar in New Holstein and Don & Dot’s Bar in Hilbert.  He spent many years driving truck for Tecumseh.  After retiring from truck driving, Donny found one of his real passions in life.  He became a bus driver for the Hilbert School District. He loved to be around kids.  Donny was no ordinary bus driver.  He was loved by students and staff alike. He was known by all the students for his Hilbert Cheer at most sporting events. Students would reply with the D.O.N.N.Y. cheer and” who’s the best damn bus driver in the world, Donny!” He was a loved man. Donny spent 26 years as a member of the Hilbert Fire Department. He enjoyed working and participating in all the July 4th celebrations.  He was an extremely proud Veteran and was an active member of the Hilbert American Legion Post 127. Donny was honored for his service as a participant on the Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington D.C. In his spare time he enjoyed tinkering in his shop and listening to his favorite Jerry Schneider Band.

Donny is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy (Fluhr) Richart. Children Krystyne (Jeff) Brandes, Thomas (Dawn) Richart, Karen (Scott) Dallmann, Lisa (Alphons) Breit.

Grandchildren, Kelly (Kevin) Padgett, Jason Brandes with Special Friend Amanda, Amber (Tom) Mayo, Mike (Kelsie) Dallmann, Eric Breit with Fiance Hannah, Dylan Breit with Special Friend Emily, Courtney Breit, Andy (Kelsey) Richart, Angela (Ben) Daul.

Great- Grandchildren, Mariah with Special Friend Gage, Mason, Xavier, Zander, Lily, Cayden, Reese, Aria, Kaylie and Benson.

Sisters Georgie (Roger) Schneider, Bootie Meyers and Special Friend JoAnn Thiel.

Donny is preceded in death by his parents George & Lucille, infant daughter Lori Ann, Sisters Etta Vanesky, Rosie Learman, Mona Sweere and Special Friend Danny Thiel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at St. Mary Catholic Church (108 S. 6th St.) in Hilbert with Rev. Michael Betley officiating.  Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, December 6, 2021 and on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 am until 10:45 am.  A parish vigil will take place at the close of the visitation on Monday evening at the funeral home.  To see a recording of the service, a memorial video, or flowers given to the family, please click HERE

Donny really was the best. So many memories of him around school, in the parade and being my bus driver.

I have many fond memories of riding the bus with Donny as the driver for field trips and to forensics meets when I was the coach. Donny's enthusiasm always made for a fun trip, and I remember his cheers at events. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I will forever see Donny and Lyle on the 40 et 8 train going to Lakewood for the parade, and riding in the back of our station wagon. Fun times! My sympathies to all of you at this time of loss. God Bless, he was a good man and will be missed.
