Donald J Brantmeier

Brothertown WI

Donald J. Brantmeier, age 81, of the Town of Brothertown, died on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at the Willowdale Health & Rehab Center in New Holstein.  He was born July 3, 1943 in Hilbert, Wisconsin, son of the late Jerome “Butch” & Mary (Campbell) Brantmeier.  Following his graduation from high school, Donald  joined the United States Air Force in 1962.  He proudly served for 4 years in Roswell, New Mexico at the airport as an electrician.  During this time of service, he married Mariann Thiel on January 18, 1964 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert.

Following his honorable discharge, he and his wife and two children  with another arriving soon began their drive back to Wisconsin.  Once home, he purchased a local business and began operating Brantmeier Electric in Chilton.  He operated the entity until his retirement at the age of 65 when his son, Mike, purchased it after years of tutelage from his father.

Don always loved the great outdoors, especially if it involved hunting or fishing.  In 1995, he and Mariann moved to the shore of Lake Winnebago where he has resided ever since.  This put him closer to the water so he could get out more frequently, but he also loved to head to Lake Michigan where he could fish and enjoy time on his boat affectionately named “Mariann”.  He and his family took time to go to their cottage in Three Lakes, Wisconsin which they had for over 20 years, and he eagerly awaited his time spent at the hunting cabin in Michigan.  Known as “Sturgeon General” by a group of family and friends, Don could be found on Lake Winnebago when it’s waters froze.  They also referred to him as “Argo Man” since he was the only person in the group to have owned one.

Survivors include his wife: Mariann; his children: Suzanne (John) Hostettler, Michael (Michelle) Brantmeier, Kim (Bob) Hephner, Cheryl (Mike) Schlater; his grandchildren: Jackie (Rick) Batzler, Jessica Hostettler, Jacob (Kelsey) Hostettler, Jolene (Johnathan) Schmalz, Shandell Hephner, Lance Hephner, Marianna Hephner, Isabella Schlater, Gabriella Schlater; great grandchildren: Jade Hostettler, Emma Batzler, Donovan Batzler, Remington Hostettler, Beaumont Hostettler, Adeline Schmalz; and his siblings and siblings-in-law: Jane (Art) Thiel, Janet Brantmeier, Mary Brantmeier, Linda Schaffer, Dave (Debbie) Brantmeier and Maxine (Raphael) Geiger.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers and brothers-in-law: Dick Brantmeier, Tom Brantmeier, Ted Schaffer and Jerry Thiel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with Rev. Jon Thorsen officiating.  A time of visitation will be held at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 10:00 am until 12:15 pm on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.  At time time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a live stream or archived recording of the service, watch a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.

Memorials given in the name of Donald J. Brantmeier are greatly appreciated for the Calumet County Dive Team which is a group who responds to water emergencies and rescues on the lake that Don spent so much time enjoying.

My deepest condolences to the entire Brantmeier family. I have so many fond memories at your home and cottage with Cheryl. Thank you for all the times you took me along to the cottage and boating. I will always remember Mr. Brantmeier’s hearty laugh and him dancing on the dock to his oldies tunes and throwing Cheryl off the dock. He instilled his amazing work ethic to his children and zest for life. Sending hugs, prayers, and comfort to you all.
