Donald Zahn, age 75, of New Holstein, died on August 16, 2024, at Willowdale Nursing Home in New Holstein. He was born September 25, 1948, son of the late Merlin and Ruth Zahn. He dated Diane Lau throughout high school and they were married on October 5, 1968, celebrating over 55 years of marriage before her passing in December of 2023.
Donald was an OTR truck driver for 42 years until his retirement. He loved working on vehicles, "turning wrenches,” and he had an interest in old tractors. He was a very social and caring person that liked to make people smile. He enjoyed camping with Diane and riding around town on his moped, putting on many miles going to coffee shops and restaurants. More than anything else, he loved family time with his kids and grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his children: Doreen (Ben) Schoenborn, David (Lori) Zahn, and Danette (Russell) Wilz, and; his grandchildren: Tim Schoenborn, Ashley Schoenborn, Brittany Mirsberger, Kendra Zahn, Cody Wilz, Lukas Wilz, and Zackery Wilz; his sister: Vicky (Dave) Schmitting; a brother-in-law: Dale (Bev) Lau; and niece and nephew: Lisa Schmitting and Brian (Kayla) Schmitting.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; his parents: Merlin and Ruth Zahn; and Diane’s parents: Earl and Elaine Lau.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, August 23, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 5:45 pm at the funeral home on the day of service. Doreen, Dave and Danette, I wish to extend our sincere condolences on the passing of your father and our very good friend, Don. Jan and I have enjoyed many years of our friendship and working relationship with your dad. Don was a dedicated worker and a valued friend who was willing to give you the proverbial shirt off his back, if you were in need. We know Don fought through many medical setbacks, but it never affected his work or our relationship. We shall truly miss Don, and only hope that his family can relish all the good memories of camping with him over the years. Don, we’ll meet again in that truck stop in the sky, and again share a cup of coffee! RIP
