Donald W Sattler

Chilton WI

Donald W. Sattler, age 93, of Chilton, died on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Willowdale Health and Rehabilitation in New Holstein.  He was born November 17, 1930, in Brothertown, son of the late Bernhard & Meta (Schussman) Sattler.

Donald met Diane Schmid when she was in junior high and they were both at a church youth group outing at Waverly Beach to roller-skate.  Diane fell which caused Don to fall on top of her.  They ran into each other again at the fair that summer, and at several church outings until she was a freshman in high school where Don was a Senior.  Smitten from the moment he met her, he patiently waited until she graduated in 1951 and proposed to her shortly after.

Don was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Chilton, was an FFA Alumni member, had served as a 4-H leader and was inducted into the Wisconsin 4-H Hall of Fame.

Don absolutely loved being on his farm tending to his sheep and time spent in the fields planting or harvesting crops.  During this time, he had also worked at various locations around the area, but appreciated greatly driving school bus.

In his free time, Don enjoyed woodworking and the quiet moments tending to his garden and raising bright colored gladiolas.  Don was a truly a good man with a great sense of humor who was never shy about sharing his words of wisdom with others and keenly tracked weather patterns.

Survivors include his children: Dexter Sattler (Jill Bertram), Donna (Don) Pingel, Darren (Suzanne) Sattler; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and his siblings-in-law: Ralph (Jeanne) Schmid, David (Inga) Schmid, Karl (Judi) Schmid, Nancy Wanish, Paul (Joan) Schmid, and Fran Schmid.  He is further survived by his nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Diane; a son: Dwane Sattler; daughters-in-law: Lynn Sattler & Cheri Sattler; and his siblings: Mildred (Arnold) Jensen, Howard (Gloria) Sattler, and June (Milan) Gasch.

Funeral service will be at 6:00 pm on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton.  Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be held at the Wieting Family Funeral Home from 3:00 pm until 5:45 pm on Saturday, February 17, 2024.  At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available for those wishing to watch a livestream or archived recording of the service, watch a memorial video or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.

Hello Dexter, My sympathy to you on your Dad’s passing. I remember Don as a very active 4-H leader and Calumet County Fair leader. But my best recollection and appreciation of him was as our bus driver. I don’t remember the bus number anymore, but he had our route for many years. He was a good driver… strict, but fun. May the many memories of him and your faith in God sustain you.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Donna and Don Pingel, and the rest of the Sattler family. I worked with Don Sattler for a short time. He was a fun and very caring person. And I also worked with his son-in-law Don, you were great to work with also. Thoughts and prayers to you both.

It is with great saddness to learn that Don has gone home and will now be with Diane and their family and with his siblings and their spouses. Having lived neighbors to the family, attended same church, was in 4-H together and then when I went to High School I met and became good friends with Diane. Diane and Don were a perfect match. They liked and did so many things together. Even to the extent that Don was a member of the Calumet County Home and Community Education organization. To both the Sattler and Schmid family I extend my deepesy sympathy. May Don rest in peace and enjoy the reuniting with family in heaven. Nyla (Bock) Musser
