Dorothy H Ciancio

Kiel WI

Dorothy H. Ciancio, age 90, of Kiel, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at Willowdale Health Services in New Holstein.

Born on March 21, 1935, in Illinois, Dorothy was the daughter of the late John and Janet (Szalczynski) Maser, the fourth of seven children. She married Samuel Ciancio in 1953, and together they were blessed with three children. Dorothy and Sam made their home in the Chicago suburbs before retiring and moving to Kiel in 1983, where they spent their remaining years together.

Dorothy found joy in bowling and was an active member of several leagues. She also cherished the friendships she cultivated through years of playing cards with her neighbors. Her commitment to Ss. Peter and Paul Church was evident in her many years of counting collections and her work alongside Father Loren on the Bishop's Appeal.

Dorothy is lovingly survived by her daughters: Janet (John) Warnecke and Diana (the late Robert, Sr.) Van Dinther; her grandchildren: Todd (Maria-Alicia) Serrano, Robert (Stephanie) Van Dinther Jr., Rachael (Ron) Nemetz, Tiffany (Jason) Iannantuoni, Terry Ciancio, Timothy Ciancio, and Joseph Ciancio; her 13 great-grandchildren: Tyler, Kylee, Gabriel, Nathaniel, Zariah, Makayla, Andrew, Bella, Kingston, Allison, Eric, Daschel, and Astrid; and her sisters: Nancy (Ron) Gac and Laurie Ptak. She will also be missed by her many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel; her son, Samuel Ciancio; her parents, John and Janet Maser; her sons-in-law, Ruben Serrano and Robert Van Dinther Sr.; and her siblings: Dolores Turner, John Maser, Adeline Kopp, and Patricia Allen.

After Samuel's passing in 2014, Dorothy found solace in reading and treasured visits with her friends and family. Her final two years were spent at Willowdale, where she enjoyed the company of fellow residents and cherished connections with old friends through games, crafts, and reading.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, located at 413 Fremont St. in Kiel. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:45 AM. A committal service will follow at the parish cemetery. For those who are unable to attend in person, a live stream and archived recording of the service, along with photos of flowers and gifts, will be available on the Wieting Funeral Home website: wietingfuneralhome.com
