Elaine Blackmon

Chilton WI

Elaine Blackmon, age 78, of Chilton, died on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Century Ridge Assisted Living in Chilton.  She was born October 13, 1947 in Camden, South Carolina, daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson Blackmon & Lenni Madge (Shaw) Blackmon.

Elaine was born and raised in South Carolina and as soon as she graduated from High School, she joined the United States Marine Corps to serve her  nation and her fellow countrymen, just as many of her family members had. After her military career, she lived in Houston, Texas, a lifelong resident of Atlanta, Georgia and in recent years moved to Chilton, Wisconsin to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.

She had a varied career that spanned her years, from administrative assistant at Exxon, and the Educational Department at The State of Georgia and retired from LXE Honeywell after over 20 years of growing with them in various positions. She will forever be remembered by her daughter as a hard-working single mom, always willing to take on extra side jobs to make ends meet.

Elaine was a strong woman and was the best mom she could be to her only daughter. The two of them had a special and unique bond. She was generous to a fault and always put others before herself. Elaine always displayed strength, even at the end of her life - a true fighter.

Elaine was a kind and caring soul who always looked out for the needs of others.  She felt so blessed to be able to help the people around her who were in need or could use a “pick-me-up”.  She was a woman of deep faith and treasured her church home, at Snellville First Baptist Church in Snellville, Georgia.  It was here that she loved to sing hymns of faith and praise music, both in the church choir and in the pews.  She volunteered countless hours there helping teach Sunday School and working with the Vacation Bible School Program.  When Elaine was unable to get out much on her own, she continued to worship at home by watching Dr. Charles Stanley through In Touch Ministry and Dr. Merritt through Touching Lives Ministry on television.  It brought Elaine so much joy to bring her daughter up in the faith as well and listen to her sing by her side.

To Elaine, her family meant everything to her.  As the eldest child she helped her mother and father raise her younger siblings.  Even though it wasn’t easy, Elaine cared for her mother and her sister through the final years of their lives when their health began to fail them.

When she had a moment, Elaine enjoyed quietly sitting and reading a book, sewing or teaching her daughter the art of crocheting.

Survivors include her daughter: Aimee (Jeremy) Daun; her grandchildren: Sawyer & Savannah Daun; and her siblings: Ken (Kim) Blackmon, John (Nilda) Blackmon & James Blackmon.  She is further survived by a nephew, nieces, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother: Woodrow Wilson Blackmon, Jr.; her sister: Ann Ray; and her nephew John Benjamin Blackmon, Jr.

Funeral service will be at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton.  Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery in Chilton.  A time of visitation will be held at the Wieting Family Funeral Home from 2:30 pm until 3:30 pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.  At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a livestream or archived recording of the service, view a memorial video or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.

Elaine's family would like to thank the entire staff at Century Ridge, as well as all of the nurses from Calumet County Homecare and Hospice for all of the loving care that they have provided to Elaine.

Dearest Aimee, My heart is breaking and rejoicing at the same time. We all feel an emptiness in our hearts. Elaine felt like a sister to me for so many years. I loved the years we shared as you girls, who best friends, were growing up. I felt like I not only had a sister, but another daughter. It is hard to let anyone leave this earth...but we know that to die is gain. Your mom is rejoicing in Heaven with her Savior, her mom and so many more who were waiting for her (hopefully little Jack). She is healed and she will be waiting for us at Heaven's door. I love you!! You will always have a special place in Rick and my hearts. Love, Momma Myra and Daddy Rick

Aimee, I am so sorry to hear of your mom‘s passing. It was truly a pleasure getting to know her when she lived at Stanton Place. One of my favorite memories was when she would gather a few of the other residents in the community room and sing hymns! What a beautiful sound it was! I know having her nearby these past several years was a blessing to you. Please know you and your family will be lifted in prayer during this difficult time.
