Elaine M Stommel

Elaine M. Stommel, age 85, of Stockbridge, formerly of Sherwood, died on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Ascension Calumet Hospital in Chilton.  She was born March 14, 1939 in Sherwood, daughter of the late Joseph & Armella (Holzschuh) Schmidt.  Elaine married David G. Stommel on September 28, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood.  

In her free time, Elaine enjoyed time bowling, was a voracious reader and looked forward to time spent on Lake Winnebago Sturgeon Spearing.  

Elaine truly enjoyed her family above all of the blessings this life had to offer.  She was a great wife and partner, a loving and caring mother and doting grandmother who cherished the opportunity to care for their every need throughout their lives.  They were truly number one in her life.  

Survivors include her husband: David; children: Kay (Kurt) Hellman, Kelly Stommel, Debra Stommel; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and her siblings: Audrey Murphy, Joann (Robert) Wittmann, LeRoy Schmidt.  She is further survived by her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law: Tom Murphy; and her sister-in-law: Erna Schmidt.

Private family services are being held and Elaine will be laid to rest at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Sherwood.  

Elaine’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Ascension Calumet Hospital and Calumet County Hospice for all of their help and care that was given to her and her family from the moment she arrived.
