Elizabeth (Betty) J. Hugo, 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 surrounded by her family.

Betty was born on May 10, 1923 to Bill and Rosalie (Dreifuerst) Schwartz in Fond du lac, Wisconsin. 

She graduated from Goodrich High School in Fond du lac. While in high school, Betty interviewed Eleanor Roosevelt for the high school newspaper. 

Betty completed stenography training and became a legal secretary for District Attorney Franklin Schmieder in Chilton, Wisconsin.

She married Arthur W. Hugo on November 9, 1946. They lived in Chilton, for 68 years and raised a family of six children. 

Betty was a member of the Christian Mothers and Daughters of Isabella. She was a long time member of Good Shepherd (formerly St. Mary’s) Catholic Church where she taught youth religion classes. Betty and Art attended religious retreats and cursillo. She served on the bereavement committee at Good Shepherd. 

Betty and Art were long time Packer season ticket holders and enjoyed attending many games with close friends. They enjoyed many winters in Phoenix, Arizona. 

Betty enjoyed golf, participating in a couples’ league with her husband and played in the Tuesday lady’s league at Hickory Hills Golf Course. She was a member of a local bridge club. Betty volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Chilton and was a member of the hospital auxiliary. 

She is survived by her husband, Arthur of Alexian Village in Milwaukee, Paul (Barbara) Hugo of Greendale, Wisconsin, Barbara (Richard) Mischo of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Rev. William Hugo, OFM Cap of Santa Ynez, California, Richard Hugo of Mequon, Wisconsin, Susan Hugo of Gilbert, Arizona, and Julie (Robert) Conover of Winona, Minnesota. Her grandchildren include Ora Mischo, Eric and Andrew Hugo, Rachel Hugo, Alex, Brian, and Katie Conover, and four great grandchildren. Surviving brothers in-law include Dr. George J. Hugo and Harold Urban. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her sister LouAnne Urban and grandson Jeffrey P. Hugo. 

Funeral services will be held at Alexian Village Chapel at 9301 N. 76th St. in Milwaukee at 3:30pm visitation and 4:30pm funeral mass on May 5th with Fr. William Hugo, OFM Cap officiating. 

Family would like to thank Alexian Village and Horizon Hospice for their service and acts of kindness extended to Betty.

Any charitable contributions can be made to Capuchin Mission, 1820 Mount Elliott Street, Detroit, Michigan 48207 in memory of Elizabeth Hugo.
