Eugene R. Meyers, age 83, of Chilton, died on November 28, 2021, at Ascension Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh. He was born December 13, 1937, in Green Bay, son of the late Leo and Madelyn Meyers. He married Ione Breckheimer on May 21, 1960, and together they had eight children.

Eugene loved being a farmer but didn’t let the hard work stop him from having fun. He loved fishing and sturgeon spearing, taking in a ball game or playing softball and listening to polka music.  He liked bowling, dancing, playing cards, and butchering with family and friends.  He served as a volunteer fireman for Town of Calumet fire department for 25 years.  Ione  and  the family wants him to know  they will miss him and love him always.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Ione; his children: Gerry (Jessie) Meyers, Richard “Rick” (Linda) Meyers, Leonard (Sherryl) Meyers, Wayne (Kathy) Meyers, Kevin (Tammy) Meyers, Joan (Gerry) Karls, and Connie (Andy) Gehl; 27 grandchildren: Christopher, Patrick, Jeremy, Austin, Alicia, Riley, Alonda, Saide, Jack, Ryan, Dustin, Jason, Marissa, Mitchell, Matthew, Mason, Andrea, Hunter, Madison, David, Emily, Jon, Mike, Jacob, Maria, and Jared; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law: Mary Breckheimer.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents: Leo and Madelyn; his son: Gordon Meyers; his grandson Josh; Ione’s parents: Leo and Maude Breckheimer; and brothers-in-law: Don Breckheimer, Dale Breckheimer, Earl Breckheimer, and Gene Breckheimer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, December 6, 2021, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg. Friends may call from 5:30 pm until 8:30 pm on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main) in Chilton, and from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg on the morning of service. Committal prayers will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Jericho following the funeral service. A vigil service will be held at the end of Sunday’s visitation.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs at Willowdale Nursing Home,  Ascension Calumet Hospital, and Ascension Mercy Hospital for their excellent care.

Gene is was one of the reasons that I had become part of his family. His daughter was the first reason, but if it wasn't for the kindness that Gene had given, who knows where things would have gone from there. He gave me something that I never dreamed would be possible for me when I was younger, his daughter! And later turned into a family that I adore and love as much as Gene and Ione do. Gene has been an amazing family role model. My children all learned things from him that I wasn't equipped to teach. And for that, I'm very grateful.
