Francis J Kopecky
Menasha, WI

Francis J. “Frankie” Kopecky, age 80, entered his eternal life on Monday, July 19, 2021, happily joining his son Mark, on what would have been his birthday. Francis was surrounded by his loving family at his home, in Harrison.  He was born October 13, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Charles & Julia (Kohout) Kopecky.  He married Jean Bartel on October 8, 1960 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Reedsville.

In 7th grade, Francis worked on the Raymond Bubolz family farm, where he learned his deep love of farming.  He graduated from Reedsville High School in 1958.  After graduation and before fulfilling his life-long passion for farming, Francis worked at the Brillion Iron Works, Hamilton’s, and Reedsville Co-Op. In 1964, he began operating his own farm, with his wife Jean, in the Hilbert area, until his retirement in 1997, eventually selling the farmstead in 2002. In his retirement, he enjoyed puzzles, traveling, feeding and watching the birds, and spending time with his family.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert where he was an usher and also belonged to the Men’s Club.  Francis always enjoyed the great outdoors and in his younger years appreciated time spent hunting, fishing, and sturgeon spearing.  He looked forward to the time he could take his boat out on Lake Michigan and Lake Winnebago.  Francis was an avid sports fan who followed every professional league he could, always keeping a watchful eye on his beloved Chicago Cubs, as well as the Milwaukee Brewers and Bucks, and Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include his wife (Lovie) of almost 61 years: Jean; 6 children: Maria (David) Scherer, Luke (Jane) Kopecky, Jeffry (Wendy) Kopecky, Joel (Elizabeth) Kopecky, Chris Kopecky, Marla (Randy) Penney; 25 grandchildren:  Alec Scherer, Bryant (Danielle) Scherer, Erin Scherer, Mara Scherer, Seth Scherer (special friend Hope Larson), Adam (Jennifer) Kopecky, Heather (Craig) Wautlet, Marcus Kopecky (special friend Andrea Zuniga), Anna Kopecky, Joshua Kopecky (fiancée Emily Preston), Noah Kopecky, Benjamin Kopecky, Jada Kopecky, Andrew (Abigail) Kopecky, Rees Kopecky  (fiancée Samantha Wessel), Caleb Kopecky, Julia Kopecky, Casey Kopecky, Natalie (Nathan) Hawkins, Dray Kopecky (special friend Leigha Andraschko), Adrian Kopecky, Kitri Kopecky, Anitra Kopecky, Devon Zahn, Jon Penney; great grandchildren: Kylie Kopecky, Parker Kopecky, Emma Scherer, Maximiliano Kopecky, Melody Hawkins; his siblings: Sister Mary Carol Kopecky, James Kopecky, Emily (Ronald) Deets, Anne (Edward) Pritzl, Carol (John) Sloma, Ruth (Paul) Neilitz, John (Rachelle) Kopecky; and his sisters-in-laws: Karen (Glen) Boehnlein & Shirley Bartel.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Amandus & Marie Bartel; an unborn son, Matthew; his son Mark, through a vehicle accident: his sister-in-law: Lois Scholz; and his brothers-in-laws: Gordon Bartel & William Scholz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Monday, July 26, 2021 at St. Mary Catholic Church (108 S. 6th St.) in Hilbert.  Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 3:30 pm until 7:00 pm on Saturday, July 24, 2021 and on Monday, July 26, 2021 at the church from 9:00 am until 10:45 am.  The Rosary will be prayed and a Parish Vigil Service will take place at the close of the visitation on Saturday  at Wieting Family Funeral Home in Chilton.  Those who wish to watch a livestream of the service, view flowers given to the family, or watch an archived recording of the funeral service, may do so by clicking HERE

Our Sympathies to you and your Family, also to the Kopecky siblings. I grew up with them, we went to school with Frankie. Peace to all of you with Special Memories. God Bless you all.

Orrin & Terri Piepenburg (Classmates) - July 25, 2021

Our sympathies to Jean and the entire family. Still remember Frank walking around the yard, and can still picture the different equipment that was used to work the land. Brings back a lot of good memories when you lived across the road from us.

Jodi and Jeff Krepline (Former neighbors) - July 22, 2021
