Harold L. “Hal” Bancroft, age 89, of Chilton, died on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein.  He was born July 29, 1933 in Chilton, son of the late Trubert & Ethel (Towne) Bancroft.  

Hal was a graduate of Chilton High School, Class of 1951, and the following year joined the United States Navy, always willing to share stories of his proud Navy service.  

Following his honorable discharge in 1956, Hal married Marlene Sartori on September 22, 1956 at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Chilton.  

Throughout his working career, Hal worked in the construction industry where he was an Estimator.  In his free time, he cherished moments spent outdoors, especially fishing and hunting.  He also loved every chance he was afforded to be with and watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.

Survivors include his wife: Marlene; his children: Gary (Mary Kay) Bancroft, Scott (Donna) Bancroft, Julie Cullen and her special friend Pete, Brian Bancroft; his grandchildren: Brandon (Emily) Bancroft, Heather Bancroft and special friend Dan, Kyle Bancroft, Ryan Bancroft, Alyssa (Scott) Thiel, Nicole Cullen and special friend Camden, Zachery Bancroft, Eli Bancroft; and his 3 great grandchildren.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law; 4 sisters and 4 brothers-in-law.  

Funeral service will be at 11:30 am on Monday, February 27, 2023 at St. Martin Lutheran Church (717 Memorial Dr.) in Chilton with Rev. Thomas Schmitt officiating.  Burial will be in the Charlestown Union Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church from 10:00 am until 11:15 am on Monday, February 27, 2023.
