James A Karls

Chilton WI

James A. Karls, age 76, of Chilton, died peacefully on April 24, 2025, at Willowdale Health Services in New Holstein with his family by his side. He was born August 27, 1948, son of the late Mike and Marie (Ziegelbauer) Karls. After high school, he fought in the Vietnam War as a soldier in the United States Army.

James went to work at Chilton Metal Products, currently Worthington Industries,  where he stayed for over 55 years as the company grew and changed ownership. He liked working with all of his coworkers and they all had fun together. He met Sharon Tadych while working there and soon the two were married on March 16, 1974, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton and started their family. James and Sharon had fun spending time with each other and with their children. He loved watching the Brewers, Badgers, Bucks, and Packers, and spending summer Sundays at Miller Park.  He also enjoyed getting together with family for passionate games of Sheepshead.

James is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children: Jim Karls Jr., Jeremy Karls, Jason Karls, Jennifer Karls, and Joshua Karls; “adopted” children: Kaison Williams and Amira Viasana; siblings: Rosie Meier, John Karls (Special friend, Jean Wadley), Lyle (Rosanne) Karls, Dorothy Ward; in-laws: Annette Haupt, Tom Tadych, Charlotte (Glenn) Kees, Theresa (Gerald, Jr.) Meyer, David (Kristine) Tadych; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Marie; a brother: Joseph Karls; Sharon’s parents: Raymond and Clarissa Tadych; and in-laws: Paul Haupt, Mary Karls, Nancy Karls, and Melvin Meier.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Good Shepherd Catholic Parish (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call from 10:00 am until 11:45 am at the church on the day of service.

Sharon and the family wish to express heart-felt appreciation to all the staff at Willowdale, nurses and doctors at St. Elizabeth ICU unit, and the Calumet County Hospice team for taking care of him.
