James D Demler
Chilton, WI

James D. “Jim” Demler, age 85 of Chilton died on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton.  He was born February 10, 1936 in Appleton, son of the late James J. & Anastasia (Rolf) Demler.

While honorably serving his country in the United States Army, Jim married Freia Mettbach on January 31, 1959 in Augsburg, Germany.  Following his retirement from the Army after 29 years of service, the couple moved back to the Calumet County area in 1982.  It was during this time that he worked at the Little Farmer Apple Orchard just north of Fond du Lac for 14 years.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and played for the Chilton Bowling League, a hobby he picked up and honed during his time in Europe.  He also picked up a passion for music, playing guitar and drums in a Country/Western band while he was stationed in France; it was a gig that gave him the opportunity to entertain service personnel who were deployed.

Jim loved to spend time outdoors, hunting and fishing whenever he could, and took great pride in building his cabin by his own hand.  He was truly a patriotic American, and passed his love of God and Country to his children, and all those he loved.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years: Freia, his children: James D. (Debbie) Demler, Jr, Juliana (Mark) Pethan, Tanya (Emil) Fritz; 8 grandchildren: John (Charlotte) Demler, Michael Demler, Anthony Pethan and fiancée, Angela Schweiner, Gina Pethan and fiancé Ryan Peik, Erika Pethan & partner, Brennan Crowley, Natalie (Matthew) Page, Eric Woelfel, Hayden Woelfel; step grandchildren: Jessica Fritz, Sara Juckem, Megan Fritz; 8 great grandchildren; a brother: Richard (Ann) Demler; a brother-in-law: Siegfried Mettbach; a sister-in-law: Renate Augustine; and dear friends: Linden & Laurie Zollner.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: June Bostwick, Jackie (Emil) Custer, Rodney Demler, Martha (Paul) Little, Beverly (Simon) Schoenung; and siblings-in-law: Martin Mettbach and Inge (Wolfgang) Brühl.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with Rev. Jon Thorson officiating.  Friends may call at the church from 10:00 am until 11:45 am on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

Jim’s family would like to extend a warm thank you to Andrea & Tyler, neighbors who have given a lot of their time in help and support.
Freda, my sympathy to you and your family. You are in my thoughts and prayers

Freia and family: There are no right words to say in this time of your loss. My heart and prayers are with you all. Jim was such a wonderful and kind man. He made me laugh anytime I was around him. I know he will always be with you. God's peace and love to each one. You will be together again...then never apart again.
