Janice B. Kolbe, age 82, of Chilton, passed away on March 30, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 1, 1940, daughter of the late Peter and Erma Koehler. On November 14, 1999, she married Andrew Kolbe. While married they enjoyed trips up north to the cabin to see the beautiful fall colors and enjoyed sitting by the water.
Mom worked many years at the Chilton nursing home first as a dietary aide until her retirement and most recently as a volunteer helping her friend, Donna, style hair for the residents.
Mom liked to start and end her days praying from her favorite prayer books. Some of her favorite pastimes include bowling, playing cards and dominos with her close friends, thrifting, feeding and watching the birds - always on the lookout for a Cardinal. Mom enjoyed making memories by cooking and baking with her kids and grandkids. They especially looked forward to her famous peanut squares and homemade pickles. Her favorite time of the year was spent making Christmas candy with her grandkids. There you would find her singing and dancing around the kitchen to the Waltons Christmas CD. Mom was always up for a good time.
Mom will be forever missed by her children: Karen (David) Gauger, Ken Liebzeit (Trisha Propson), Diane (Chris) Gintner, and Kris (Jamie) Wiese; and daughter-in-law: Tami Liebzeit. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Dorothy; and close family friend: Lisa Liebzeit.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Kolbe; her parents: Peter and Erma; her son: David Liebzeit; and her sister and brother-in-law: Lois and Delvin Heimerl.
Janice was the sweetest woman you could ever meet and had a smile for everyone. Whenever mom saw you her face lit up the room with genuine love and excitement. We will never forget her contagious laughter and heartfelt hugs. Above all else, her family was the greatest blessing of her life.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert, with Fr. Michael Betley officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 am to 11:45 am at the church on the day of service. A committal service will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Hilbert following the church services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in the name of Janice Kolbe.

My circumstances are such that I cannot be there today, but I need to share, I first met Janice when I was working at Chilton nursing home, her compassion was evident each day that she served the residents, then much to my gratitude, she became my neighbor. For the past 22 years we have lived side by side. She was an inspiration to me. She was always hosting card parties, spending time with her family, and working in her yard. The smile she had always made me smile. I told her many times she was my inspiration as I continued to age. I truly loved her and when I moved, one of the hardest things I had to do was to say good-bye to her. I can imagine the loss your family is going through and will go through, hang onto those memories, hold them close to your heart and she will always be there.

Upon meeting your mother, I saw an earth angel. She beamed while listening to the conversation around her. She was a person people gravitated toward.
