Jean M Laughrin
Chilton, WI

Jean M. Laughrin, age 93, of Chilton, died on September 14, 2020, at Century Ridge Care Center in Chilton. She was born July 19, 1927, in Shoto, WI, daughter of the late Charles and Lillian Meissner. On June 10, 1947, she married John Laughrin at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Reedsville and together they had six children.

Jean worked at Chilton Metal as a press operator for 20 years and helped John at cheese factories as a bookkeeper, but the work she loved was at home with her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking. Her grandchildren loved her chocolate chip cookies and her family always looked forward to her other baked goods. She loved spending time in the swimming pool with her grandchildren playing Marco Polo. She also enjoyed taking them with her and John whenever they went camping. She and John liked traveling and visited Canada and Jamaica. She even had a knack for rhyming, making up songs with the grandchildren and writing everyone an original poem in their birthday cards.

Jean was a smart woman, graduating from Reedsville as the Valedictorian of her class. She loved trivia contests and refused to miss Wheel of Fortune. She also watched Johnny Carson with a dish of ice cream every night.

Jean is survived by her children: James Laughrin, William (Debbie) Laughrin, Kathy (Morris) Fagg, Jackie (Robert) Schneider, Buzz (Pam) Laughrin, and Carol (Dave) Mallmann; 18 grandchildren: Sarah, Jim, Anne, David, Bill, Scott, Morris, Shelly, Melanie, Nicky, Mike, Jeff, John, Katrina, Justin, Josh, Jill, and Lori; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister: Pat Weber; sister-in-law: Carol Jahnke; and brothers-in-law: Jerome “Sonny” Kohlbeck and Pat (Ginny) Laughrin.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents: Charles and Lillian; daughter-in-law: Wendy Laughrin; sisters: Mary Kohlbeck, Elaine (Jack) Lorrigan, and Lois (Jack) Licht; and a brother: Robert (Dorothy) Meissner.

A mass of Christian burial will take place at 4:00pm on Friday, September 18, 2020, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call from 1:30pm until 3:30pm on Friday, September 18, 2020, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. The committal service will take place at St. Augustine Cemetery in Chilton following the funeral service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Century Ridge Care Center for many years of care, and to Southern Care Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in the name of Jean Laughrin for a donation to the Alzheimers Association.
Jean was one of the kindest-most patient -forgiving women I have ever known. She loved John and her family unconditionally. She will be missed by many that loved her.

Sympathy to Jackie and
her whole family. Jean
was so dearly loved, and
the family bond was remarkable.
May the wonderful memories they share keep
her 'alive' in their heart.
May she rest in peace.
