Jeanette C. Schwobe, age 95, died on September 6, 2026. She was born June 2, 1931, daughter of the late Walter and Catherine Joas. On April 15, 1952, she married Vernon Schwobe and together they had six children.

Jeanette was a talented seamstress. She sewed the children’s clothes, curtains, drapes, and made many beautiful quilts. She also upholstered furniture and did cake decorating.

She was an excellent cook and everyone loved her applesauce and her cherry, pumpkin, and apple tortes.

Jeanette loved having her grandchildren over and babysitting them when they were small. She loved to travel. Jeanette and Vernon visited Hawaii and Alaska several times. They camped in a tent when the family was young, and after they retired they wintered in Texas in their RV.

Jeanette was a member of St. Augustine’s Christian Mothers and helped with many funeral dinners, church picnics, and rummage sales. She volunteered at the Chilton meal site from 2019 to July 2026 where she helped pack and serve meals for the elderly, even at 95.

Jeanette worked at Leverenz Shoe Factory before marriage and at Tecumseh Products from 1966 until her retirement in 1992.

Jeanette worked alongside her husband to build their house. As their family grew they together built a second house where she lived for 62 years until the age of 93 when she moved to an apartment.

Survivors include her daughters: Judy (Steve) Meier and Janet (Norb) Gebhart; daughter-in-law: Lori Schwobe; grandchildren: Lisa (Pat) Spaulding, David Schwobe  (Katie Spurgeon), Andrea Meier (Mike Reimann), Jeff (Kristin) Meier, Ashley (John) Wiensch, Elizabeth (Joel) Kopecky, Matthew (Sara) Schwobe, Rebecca Miller, Ruth (Lisa) Schwobe, Chris (Jerelyn) Gebhart, Nick (Monica) Gebhart, Brian Gebhart, Jeremiah Koehler, Rhiannon Koehler; children loved as grandchildren: Katie (Mitch), Bresais, Evelyn, Natalie, and Jonathon Fowler; great-grandchildren: Jon-Luke and James-Lee Spaulding, Andrew Kopecky, Reese (Samantha) Kopecky, Caleb and Julia Kopecky, Cheyenne Schwobe, Phillip and Stephen Miller, Asher, Chloe, and Everly Gebhart, Addyson Gebhart, Weston and Wyatt Gebhart, and Ariana Koehler; two great-great-granddaughters: Scarlett and Hazel; and a sister: Pat (Bob) Woods; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

I was born 11 years after Jeanette, and she was the one who took me to the dentist when I was a child. I never met a woman who worked harder whether at a paying job, helping Vern build two houses, or as a volunteer. She also was a giving person who shared her time and talents with others. My sincere condolences to all her family members. RIP Jeanette . . .

Although I visited with Jeanette for only a short time that she resided at Lakehouse, I truly appreciated connecting with all of her family that I had the privilege of knowing over the years. I admired her ambition and cherished memories. Sincere sympathy to the entire family.
