Joan C Bruckner
Chilton, WI

Joan Catherine Bruckner, age 89, of Chilton, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Chilton.  She was born May 26, 1929 in Chilton, daughter of the late Roland & Elise (Everix) Miller.

As a child, Joan was given the nickname Jo-Jo from her father as she attended St. Mary Catholic Grade School.  She later graduated from Chilton High School before enrolling in the Cradle Nursing School in Chicago.  Following her graduation from nursing school, Joan worked in the nursery at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan and ultimately Calumet Medical Center in Chilton.  Joan also worked as a teaching assistant in the Chilton Public School System where she helped in the special education department.

Joan married George J. Bruckner on August 26, 1950 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton.   She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton and cherished her strong Catholic Faith which carried her throughout her life.

With a passion for the outdoors, Joan looked for any and all opportunities to be outside.  She enjoyed cross country skiing, going parasailing, horse back riding, cruising the countryside while enjoying a delicious ice cream cone and spending time on the river walk.  She also enjoyed canoeing down the mighty Manitowoc River and attending the Chilton City Band Concerts at the fairgrounds.  Joan was an amazing cook, specializing in wild game. With 5 boys and a husband who loved to hunt and fish, she was never in short supply of meals. Joan also enjoyed attending sporting events of her children and grandchildren.

Above all of the blessings in her life, Joan treasured her family the most.  She loved to be around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and constantly found ways to put their needs ahead of her own.

She is survived by her children: Paul (Sharon) Bruckner of Stockbridge, Peter (Laureen) Bruckner of Minocqua, John (Patricia) Bruckner of Chilton, James (Kathy) Bruckner of Chilton; 10 grandchildren: 19 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a sister: Gretchen Bloomer.  She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: George; a son: Thomas J. Bruckner; and her siblings: Earl “Mike” Miller, Marilyn Nolan, & Nancy Nolan.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church (Military Road) in Stockbridge with Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chilton.  Friends may call at the church from 9:30 am until 10:45 am on Saturday, September 15, 2018.

Joan's family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at the Atrium Post Acute Care Center and the Calumet County Hospice Team.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. So glad we got to know such a warm, fun, loving lady through Roz and Nick. Joan will always have a special place in our hearts.

So very sorry to hear about the passing of a very special lady. I remember when my dad passed that Joan would call my mom to see how she was doing and check in on her. She will be truly missed. Will keep all of the family in my thoughts and prayers.

If ever there was a more sweet, tender and caring Mother it is difficult to pinpoint any other than Joanie. She was the most loving co-worker when caring for the babies in the nursery and on her watch they were all loved and taken care of like no other. She was a dear friend and loving Mom to her family and made sure each and everyone of them was well-fed and taken care of. So terribly sorry for your loss and love and prayers sent your way with her passing. God surely has someone now to care for the little ones with him in heaven. With love Jane

Jane Barany (Co-worker & friend) - Sept. 10, 2018
