John L Kolbe

Chilton WI

John L. Kolbe, age 78, of Chilton, died on April 23, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 14, 1948, on the family farm, son of the late Leo and Elizabeth Kolbe.

John married Kathryn Flament on September 23, 1972. They raised their three children on their family farm in the town of Charlestown. He had no greater joy than being next to his children and wife working their entire 53 years marriage.

John had a true passion for his land, sports, and anything with wheels. He cherished any time he had with his wife, children and grandchildren, especially their annual trips up north. He will be remembered for his friendly smile, always willing to talk to anybody, and the most positive attitude.

John is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children: Christopher Kolbe, Kevin (Dannice) Kolbe, and Kimberly (Joseph) Boehnlein; grandchildren: Natalie Kolbe, Maximilian Kolbe, Audrey Kolbe, and Cameron Boehnlein; step-grandchildren: Courtney (Dan) Main and Trent Price; step-great-grandchild: Wyatt Main and Caroline Main; siblings: Jim (Kathleen) Kolbe,  Joe (Renel) Kolbe, Jerry (Joanne) Kolbe, Jeff Kolbe, and Jane (Brian) Moschel; in-laws: Barbara Moehr and Robert (Susan) Flament; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Elizabeth; a sister-in-law: Mary Kolbe; and Kathy's mother: Bernice Flament.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton, and from 9:30 am until 10:45 am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on the day of service. John will be laid to rest at St. Martin Cemetery in Charlestown.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the Calumet County Hospice team, as well as Dr. Herlay and Dr. Starr at Ascension Wisconsin Oncology and Cancer Care.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in John’s honor.

Condolences

Kathy and family, our deepest sympathy to all of you . John was a special guy with the Kolbe knack to talk about anything to anyone. Wishing we could attend the funeral but health reasons for Clarence, we are unable to attend. You are in our hearts and prayers. Clarence and Barb

May the LORD bring comfort to the Kolbe family as they go through this time of pain and sorrow. John was a good customer of ours at Farm and Home and always had a smile on his face. We had many interesting conversations over the years, and I will think of them often.

I met John when he came into Farm and Home. He was at very regular customer there. John always walked in with a smile on his face and kind word. I grew up on a farm so we always had something to talk about. I will miss his smile and those talks.

Kathy, Lin and I extend our sympathy and prayers to you, your family and extended family upon the passing of John. I remember the many, many softball games we played together over the years both league and tournament. Of course who could forget, the almost mandatory, friendly bantering that followed those games after indulging in a “few” adult beverages. Definitely the best of times!! Admittedly, I had the opportunity to participate in my share of softball games over the years, but I believe John bested me and actually played in more. This could very easily be attributed to, my personal opinion, that all the Kolbe children were gifted with a bat, ball and glove very shortly after being born, with baseball spikes “wisely “ following much later. Though John and I did not see as much of one another following what I term the “softball years”, the times we did were always met with a big smile, hardy handshake and John”s occasional, not so gentle, slap on the back. That was then and this is now and John has gone ahead of us to go home. Until the time comes when you are once again reunited with him, as you surely will be as personally promised by Jesus, may God’s grace and the memories you created together throughout the years comfort you. When the day comes, hopefully very soon, that you can once again smile and even laugh when recalling those memories and times, I am positive that John will be smiling and laughing with you. May God bless you and be with you, Mike & Lin Bruckner
