John R Suttner
Chilton, WI

John Suttner, 87, of Chilton, passed away on October 31, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife and eight children. He was born July 14, 1935, son of the late Leonard and Lillian Suttner. He attended Hilbert High school and went on to graduate from the University of Notre Dame in 1957. On August 22, 1959, he married Carole Nordengren and started their family.  Shortly, thereafter he was called to serve his country as an Army Reservist.

In 1961, he founded and led Suttner Accounting for 40 years before turning the business over to two of his sons. He immersed himself in the community and his profession by getting involved with the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club and Wisconsin Association of Accountants serving two terms as the organization’s President, St. Augustine’s Parish, and a 50+ year member of the Knights of Columbus.

John’s life was driven by the love for his faith, wife and children.  John and Carole had an extraordinary marriage of 63 years.  They truly enjoyed being together and shared an exceptional bond. They were devoted to their Lord and the Blessed Virgin Mary.

“Big John” had an inviting and mischievous personality, and he enjoyed activities ranging from vacations to Butternut Lake, golfing with buddies, Packer games, happy hour with his wife Carole, family, and friends. John’s grilling expertise, marinades and rubs were widely known and enjoyed.  He was an avid pheasant hunter and loved his dogs. His grandchildren will fondly remember his epic ice cream parades.

John is survived by his loving wife, Carole, and their eight children: Mary (Mike) Ryder, Joe (Teresa) Suttner, Jim (Lisa Barnhill) Suttner, Anne (Richard) Eggleston, Tom (Tina) Suttner, Maggie Koltermann, Bill (Kristen Mueller) Suttner, Mike Suttner, 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  John is further survived by his brother, Lee Suttner and his sister-in-law, Carol Nordengren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Janet, sister-in-law Ginny Suttner, and brother-in-law Jack Nordengren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 54 E Main St., Chilton.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a funeral mass at 12:00. John made the best steaks when Glen & I came over to his & Carole' home. Glen & John loved to take our dog, Mandy, out to peasant hunt. He will be missed. Rita

My deepest sympathy to the family of John. I was an Extension Home Economist and met Carol and I recall their wedding and the most wonderful family that followed. John was caring and compassionate. He accomplished a lot and gave back to the community. May John rest in peace. Praying for you Carol and your family. Nyla Bock Musser

My parents cared deeply about John and Carol. I grew up knowing John was a solid, respected professional with a fantastic and loving wife. I have not talked with them much since my mom passed, and I realize the lost opportunity. I know my dad has been waiting to have John join him at a card table. I hope that the good memories stay with family and help them through this difficult time. With compassion, Sharon and Tino
