Joseph H Juckem
Chilton WI
Joseph H. “Grandpa Joe” Juckem, age 103, of Chilton, died on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at St. Paul Elder Services in Kaukauna. He was born August 3, 1921 in Chilton, son of the late Peter & Margaret (Salm) Juckem. He married Ida Geiger on November 27, 1945 in Brillion; she preceded him in death.
He was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton, formerly St. Mary Parish and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus where he had served as Grand Knight for a time. He was a member of the NFO where he had also served as President, and had also belonged to the Calumet County Holstein Breeders.
Beginning as a young man, Joe dedicated his life to farming. When he was about 20 years old, he deconstructed an entire barn in Oshkosh, hauled it to Chilton, and rebuilt it on his own land where he continued his operation. With so much knowledge of carpentry and construction, Joe also harvested the lumber for the house that he had built for his family. Once his children were old enough, he applied his knowledge of woodworking by volunteering as a 4-H Adult Leader.
In his free time, Joe looked forward to the leisure of fishing on Lake Winnebago, especially when it was frozen. As a dedicated fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers, Joe made sure to keep his schedule clear in order to watch or listen to games. For the past 40 years, he and his family celebrated his birthday at a Milwaukee Brewer Game. This August they were recognized as the Coca-Cola Family of the game as he celebrated the milestone of 103 years. Joe enjoyed being a member of the Good Shepherd Dartball Team and was a recipient of the sportsmanship award. It wasn’t difficult to get Joe to sit down for a game of Sheepshead with his family or friends at the Uptown Commons, or hop in a vehicle with his children to take a trip to the casino.
Above all else, his faith and his family were paramount. Joe continually gave thanks to God for the life he was given, the family that he cherished, and the farm he loved.
Survivors include his children: Jeanne (Paul) Geiser, Janet Juckem, Jerry (Ann) Juckem, Judy Koehler, Jackie (Larry) Wunrow, Joseph E. (Claudia) Juckem, Jenny (John) Petrie, Jeff (Renee) Juckem, Jay (Denise) Juckem; son-in-law: Richard Ditto; grandchildren: Scott Geiser, David (Shelly) Geiser, Joe Ditto, Mary (Dave) Post, Andy (Jenny) Ditto, Sister M. t was so special to see Uncle Joe at my mother's funeral this past week. He found the strength to be there, and visited through the luncheon too. So many will be glad they saw him on Monday. I will never forget it. My mother loved her siblings and enjoyed visiting and playing cards through the years. She treasured her trip to Medjugorje with Joe and his daughter, Joanne. Uncle Joe and Aunt Ida were my Godparents, and they always supported me in my Catholic faith. I am very grateful. I look forward to visiting with family and friends as we honor Uncle Joe on Thursday. Love to all of you, Gerald Schwoerer
