Judith A. “Judy” Zastrow, age 79, of Chilton, died on July 28, 2023, at Willowdale Health Services in New Holstein. She was born June 4, 1944, daughter of the late Leander and Dorothy Schmidt. She married Donald Zastrow on July 21, 1962, and they had three children.
Judy was raised on a farm and it instilled in her a strong work ethic that she carried with her throughout her entire life. She lived life to the fullest and was never one to complain or feel sorry for herself, even when battling through ailments and illnesses. She and Donald did everything together and loved traveling, whether it was to their family cabin in Crivitz, or out to visit casinos, but their most memorable trip was to Alaska. Judy liked canning and kept their cellar full; she also enjoyed picking hickory nuts in the summer and would spend hours in the winter shelling them. She became an avid birdwatcher and loved having her feeders full of birds.
Judy is survived by her daughters: Lisa Jodar (Mike Funk) and Gail Zastrow; nine grandchildren: Kassandra Jodar (Greg Van Norman), Bailee Jodar (Zack Nigh), Conner Funk, Madison Funk, Cole Schabach (Shandell Hephner), Seth Schabach, McKenna (Adam) Kohlman, Matthew (Rebecca) Tiffany, Tony (Emily) Zastrow, and Haley Zastrow; one great-grandchild; sisters: Caroline (Merlin) Binstock, Kathleen (Rick) Neitzer, Darlene Irwin, and Lorie Schwalenberg; and in-laws: Shirley Bankenbusch, Carol Kees, Darlene (Ron) Hayes, Bob (Cathy) Zastrow, and Eddie (Carol) Zastrow.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents: Leander and Dorothy Schmidt; her son: Doug Zastrow; brothers: Lee Schmidt and Lyle Schmidt; Donald’s parents: Ed and Ida Zastrow; brother-in-law: Armend Zastrow; a nephew: Eric Zastrow; and her beloved friend: Bailey.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Thank you to the Willowdale Nursing Home for the care and concern that all the nurses and CNA staff gave to mom; each of you need to be commended. Numerous people played huge roles in making mom’s last months comfortable and caring.
As Judy would say: “You can go now.”
