Karen M Hackbarth
Hilbert, WI

Karen Marie Hackbarth, age 67, Hilbert, WI, died Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc, WI.  Karen was born March 31, 1951 in Milwaukee, WI, daughter of the late John W. and Kathryn (Keely) McNaughton.  She married Glenn A. Hackbarth on September 23, 1972 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert, WI. She graduated from Hilbert High School in 1970 and earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Fox Valley Tech, Appleton, WI in 1972. She began her nursing career as an Orthopedic Nurse at Appleton Medical Center before working for Dr. Randy Theiler and Dr. Gene Tipler in Chilton, WI.  She also worked for a number of years as a nurse at Chilton Village (now Chilton Care Center).

Karen was a caring and giving person in ways both big and small. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to family and friends in need. There were many Christmases through the years when she invited lonely seniors to join the family celebrations.

A lifelong voracious reader, a book was never far from reach. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends—she was especially well known for her scrumptious English Muffin Bread and her spaghetti.  She enjoyed needlework and crafting of various types and created many fun holiday projects for all the kids, young and old, to do together.  In her free time, she played the piano for her enjoyment and to the delight of her family.

With a mischievous side to her, Karen instigated many a goofy happening with much laughter (and groans!) creating lasting memories for the whole family.  And if the mood was right, you could see a full moon and a twinkle in her eye.

She was the glue that held her family together in love.  She gave all that she was to everyone she loved, especially her husband, her children, her sisters, and her grandchildren whom she adored.

Survivors include her husband Glenn, her children: Beth (Tom) Conrad, Greg McNaughton (Betsy) Hackbarth, Kate (Jason) Scherer, three grandchildren: Cara, Johnathon and Madelynn, her sisters: Peggy (Mark) Schneider, Patricia McNaughton, nieces and nephews: Michael (Bridget) Schneider, Alisa (Jon) Mielke, Jacob (Melissa) Schneider, aunt and uncle, Elaine and Larry Stowasser, great nieces and nephews: Emily and Devon Schneider, Adeline and Charlie Mielke and Kiran, Nirav and Naya Shetty, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and their families, dear cousins and friends—you all know who you are, and her cat, Jack.

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her parents-in-law: Earl and Marie (Schmidt) Hackbarth, a brother: John McNaughton, a sister: Eileen McNaughton, two brothers-in-law: Clayton Hackbarth and John Pierce, and her much loved aunts and uncles.

The funeral service will be at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. until 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.

The entire Hackbarth family extends special thanks to Annette Kaminsky for her enduring friendship and care, to Hilbert/Potter First Responders, CMC Ambulance and the staff at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.

Thank you, Karen, Mom, Nan, Ree, for sharing your life with us. We are all better for having heard your laughter, felt your touch, your hugs, and your love. You will be deeply missed and held ever in our hearts.

We had great times cheerleading together but she was always a great friend and just a joy to be around and she truly loved you Glenn and you Peggy and Patti...my sympathy to your whole family! Jesus blessed you all!

Karen was a wonderful woman. I remember how welcoming and friendly she was during all of the preparations for Tom and Beth's wedding. Mike, the kids and I are so sorry for your loss. Karen and your entire family will be in our prayers.
