Kathleen A. "Kathy" Engler

Chilton WI

Kathleen A. “Kathy” Engler, age 85, of Chilton, died on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton.  She was born May 3, 1939, in her beloved hometown of Niagara, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Cyrus LaMotte & Mary Adele “Della” LaMotte.

On June 22, 1963, Kathy married Michael Engler in Niagara and the couple moved to the Chilton area where they laid down roots and began to raise their family.  Kathy applied her nursing degree by working as an RN at the hospital in Chilton and creating relationships with nearly everyone throughout the area.

Throughout her life, Kathy did everything in her ability to build others up and brighten their day.  She was the President  and founding member of the “Cookie Club” whose founding principal was to “bring a smile” to those who may be homebound, leaving for college, or just needing a ‘pick-me-up’.  Kathy treasured time spent traveling the countryside visiting friends and family.

Kathy had a soft spot in her heart for animals and was integral to the donation of the land for where the East Shore Humane Society now resides.

When she wasn’t tending to the needs of others, Kathy found herself painting ceramics and attending all of the sporting events that her children and grandchildren were involved with.

With the honed skill of cooking and baking, Kathy looked forward to times where she could host family and friends at her home.  She especially looked forward to December and the famous “Grandma Night” when all the grandchildren and great grandchildren would gather for a full night of annual traditions.

Survivors include her husband: Michael; her children: Michele (Kurt) Halbach, Karla (Wayne) Bartel, Brian (Lori) Engler, John Engler, Mary (Brian) Heimann; grandchildren: Jennifer Campbell, Brad (Krista) Halbach, Beka (Jesse Marczewski) Bartel, Chris Bartel, Nic Bartel and his special friend, Amy Schmitz, Ella Bartel, Kimberly (Spencer) Wakefield, Jeremy (Kim) Muellenbach, Annika, Bryce & Malea Heimann; great grandchildren: Mason & Austin Campbell, Connor & Caiden Halbach, Emmaline Wakefield, Parker, Cayden & Christina Muellenbach; her sister: Annette Burdette (John Casey); and her siblings-in-law: Bill (Arlene) Engler, and Virginia (Jim) Gilmore.  She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson: Riley Engler; brother: Cyrus; her step-father: Eli Bellefeuil; and a sister-in-law: Gail Engler.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Monday, April 7, 2025 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton.  Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chilton.  A time of visitation will be held at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 6, 2025 and on Monday at the funeral home from 9:00 am until 10:30 am.

Condolences

Our deepest sympathy to the Engler Family. Kathy will be deeply missed. She truly showed her love for animals as she never passed up an opportunity to stop and say hello to our dog Macy as she took walks through the neighborhood. Macy often waited for her at the end of the driveway when she saw her coming down the street. Kathy was a beautiful and giving person and we were fortunate to have known her. We will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers.

My brother Bob used to get sweet Vadalia onions for Kathy every year. To show her appreciation she always invited Bob and his wife, Jan, Jan’s mom, Marie and myself to their home for onion pie. It’s a savory dish that was always wonderful. Kathy was a gracious host. She will be missed.
