Kathryn Grace Lorenz, age 76, of Chilton, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. She was born November 28, 1948 in Green Bay, daughter of Grace Mildred (Pepper) Nohr Bernhard and the late Alvin Francis Nohr.
She was a faithful member of Faith Alliance Church in Chilton where she resided with her husband Ed Lorenz. In 2021 she retired from Roeh Excavating in New Holstein. Her journey began in the Chilton area where she grew up the eldest of 10 children. After graduating from Chilton High School, she attended Beauty Culture School in Appleton. Kathy married her first husband Gordy Schmidt back in 1968. This chapter led her into being a businesswoman. Her and Gordy first ran the family farm and then owned and operated the Opera House in St. Nazianz. Together they had 6 children and have many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a kind, patient, gentle and loving mother. In 2003 she married Ed and gained more children and grandchildren. She was a very vibrant and active fixture at Faith Alliance Church in Chilton. With a gentle and caring spirit, Kathy made sure to serve others by helping with AWANA, singing in the church choir, helping organize the Women’s Breakaway each year, and sharing the love of God around the world through Operation Christmas Child. A devoted servant of Faith Alliance, Kathy took great pride in tending to the kitchen and the many meals served for numerous church functions.
In her free time, Kathy had a passion for cooking and looked forward to opportunities to create delicious meals for those she loved. She enjoyed spending time with those she loved, as well as taking time to write and share stories. Kathy never passed up an opportunity to make an important announcement in order to let everyone know what was going on; this gift lovingly earned her the nickname “Chatty-Kathy”. Above all else, Kathy’s faith was of utmost importance to her. She was actively involved in the women’s Bible study and prayer group at church and was never afraid to share the love of Christ with anyone and everyone she came across. It was her deep love for others that gave her the encouragement to pray continually for people, and make sure that they knew that she was, indeed praying for them. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She loved them all and was loved dearly, a beautiful woman inside and out.
Survivors include her husband: Edward Gerald “Ed” Lorenz; her mother: Grace Mildred Bernhard; children: Elizabeth “Lisa” Schmidt, Michael (Kristy) Schmidt, Amy (Joe) Belonger, Jennifer Wachholz, Mark (Annette) Schmidt, Christine Schmidt (Kyle Turner); Ed’s children: Kim (Dean) Retlich, Dale Lorenz (fiancée Lisa); Jeff (Miranda) Lorenz; grandchildren: Miranda, Kyle, Kelley, Brad, Derek, Jeff, Kyle, Jason, Ally, Shaun, Shayla, Addison, Olivia, Alexander, Courtney, Cody, Ethan, Charlie and their families; many great grandchildren; and her siblings: Judith (Mark) Anderson, Mary (Randy) Schussman, James Nohr, Barbara Delger, Lori Hardrath, Susan (Terry) Hardrath, Charles O’Neil, Jane (Steve) Richardson. She is further survived by siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father: Alvin Nohr; her first husband: Gordy Schmidt; a brother: RJ Nohr; and a step-daughter and son-in-law: Shelly and Kenny Lorenz-Adair among others.
Funeral service will be at 4:00 pm on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Faith Alliance Church (468 N. State St.) in Chilton with Rev. Jim Jensen officiating. A time of visitation will be held at Faith Alliance Church from 1:00 pm until 3:45 pm on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Kathy will be laid to rest in Lark, Wisconsin. At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a livestream or archived recording of the service, view a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.
Memorials given in the name of Kathryn Grace Lorenz are appreciated with a portion being allocated for Faith Alliance Church's Operation Christmas Child Mission.
A special thank you to the medical teams at Mercy Medical in Oshkosh and St Elizabeth's in Appleton for their care to Mom and our family.

So sorry to hear of Kathy’s passing. I knew her as a child at Lark Churh. I was in contact with her a few years ago when we exchanged family pictures. She was a believer and is now in Jesus’ arms. Sorry I just got the message today. Was happy to hear she will be buried at Lark cemetery by her family.

I was always greeted by her and Ed with big smiles, something funny said, and laughter. She was always very helpful and kind. She will be greatly missed. I am so sorry to hear about the passing on all of your mother Kathy. As a childhood friends, we had not seen each other for many years, and then we met at a Voice of the Martyrs conference. I am so thankful that we were reacquainted with each other. Praise God that Kathy is now with Jesus and has eternal joy with her Lord. My wife and I send our deepest condolences.
