Kevin M Gilbertson
Rantoul WI
Kevin M. Gilbertson, age 55, of the Town of Rantoul, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Ascension Calumet Hospital in Chilton. He was born September 15, 1969 in Chilton, son of Deborah K. (Rusch) Schleis and the late Gerald Gilbertson.
Kevin had a knack for fixing and reconditioning anything with a motor. He began his working career at Steve’s Fix-it-Shop where he honed his skills working on every Polaris machine under the sun. When the shop was sold, Kevin continued utilizing his expertise with Gruett’s in Potter working part time and continuing to offer help to any and all of his friends and acquaintances who needed help with their machines.
When Kevin wasn’t wrenching on everything mechanical that moves, he loved the time he could spend fishing in his boat or trekking out on the ice of Lake Winnebago fishing. He also appreciated the quiet moments of hunting in his favorite locations.
Kevin went out of his way to “Play in the Dirt”, whether that be the mud or the sand that he found with his Razor traveling Up North. It was well known that if he didn’t arrive home dirty or muddy, he wasn’t “playing well enough”.
Just because Kevin could work on a machine, didn’t mean that he didn’t know how to operate it. He never passed up an opportunity to work on his beloved Camaro and looked forward to “Race Days” at WIR Speedway where he was afforded the opportunity to teach others how to drive and maintain vehicles.
Survivors include his mother: Deborah; his brother: David (Laurie) Gilbertson; his nieces and nephews: Michael (Chassity) Gilbertson, Jamie (Jennifer) Gilbertson, Cyle Gilbertson, & Hailey Gilbertson. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents; and some of his aunts and uncles.
Funeral service will be at 5:30 pm on Monday, October 28, 2024 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton with Rev. Thomas Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in the Brillion Community Cemetery in Brillion. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 28, 2024 from 1:00 pm until 5:15 pm. At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a live stream or archived recording of the ceremony, view a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.
Kevin's family would like to thank the Hilbert / Potter First Responders, EMTs, and paramedics for all of their help and care that was given to both Kevin and his family.

Condolences
Kevin lived everything to the max. He forgot his legs didn’t hold him up. But he’d be propped upon a tall barstool talking away. He enjoyed the biggest bonfires. Fished like there was no tomorrow. Raced a car, drove in tractor pulls and hunted for many a buck. He loved his family mostly. He will be missed. His struggles are over and may his family give comfort in that. We are so sorry for your loss. K & G
