Laura E Keuler
Chilton, WI

Laura “Dickie” Keuler, age 90, of Chilton, was called to her heavenly home on June 13, 2020.

Laura was born in Fond du Lac on July 8, 1929, to Martin and Clara (Diedrick) Baltz.  She met her husband, Robert Keuler, when she was in high school in Chilton.  It was “love at first sight.” Their first date was the Chilton High School Sadie Hawkins dance and the rest is history.  They married on June 16, 1948, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton.  Together they raised 11 children.  Robert preceded her in death on February 22, 2010.

Laura had a strong passion for life.  Her love of cooking and baking, making everything from “scratch”, kept her in the kitchen for countless hours preparing delicious meals, baked goods, and canning vegetables. Needless to say, everything was made in very large quantities.  The kitchen always smelled like a gourmet restaurant.  She prided herself in her many colorful perennial gardens.  Her love of nature and gardening allowed her time out of the house and she always said she found it “peaceful and relaxing.”  She had a green thumb and could truthfully make anything grow, even if it looked wilted and dried up.  She was also an avid Packers fan and never missed a game.  Her love of traveling took her to Australia, Hawaii, Vienna, Mexico, Jamaica and numerous states around the country.

After her children were all grown, she ventured into the work force as a cook at Chilton Village for 23 years.  She loved her job and made wonderful friends in her coworkers.  She treasured times spent with her many friends.  Upon retirement, Bob and Laura enjoyed weekly trips to the casinos in the area.  After Bob’s death, Laura continued bus trips to the casinos with her friends.

Laura’s life revolved around her family, and as families do, it continued to grow-adding 29 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.  Laura very often commented how very blessed she felt to have the loving family she had.  Even as she grew older, well in to her eighties, she was continually involved in her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities.  Her unconditional love and support were always visible.

Laura’s life was grounded by her faith.  Her faith allowed her strength of mind and body to remain active and enjoy life until her passing.

She will be greatly missed by her children:  MaryKay (Dennis) Hein, Rick (Therese) Keuler, Dan Keuler, Lisa Perez, Kevin (Cheryl) Keuler, Joe (Roxane) Keuler, Willy (Michele) Keuler, Pat Keuler, Tim (Sheila) Keuler, Jenny (Don) Dorn, Nicki (Tim) Mathes, and her 29 loving grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.  She is further survived by brother-in-law, Donald Keuler, sisters-in-law, Beverly Baltz and Virginia Nelson.  Laura was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Sandra, her parents, grandson, Peter Dorn, her in-laws, Arthur and Agatha Keuler, 3 brothers, Milo, Dalton, and Donald Baltz, 2 brothers-in-law, Arthur (Gunner) Keuler and James Keuler, and 3 sisters-in-law, Carol Keuler, Katherine Baltz, and Goldie Baltz.

We would like to thank Deacon Dennis Bennin for taking the time to be with us after Mom’s passing, the staff at Ascension Calumet Medical Center for accommodating our large family, and Mom’s friends at the Uptown Commons for all of their support.

Mom, thank you for your unconditional and eternal love.  We will miss you.

It was Laura’s wish that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to either the Humane Society or Chilton Area Catholic School.

Funeral proceedings are as follows:  Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Wieting Funeral Home, Chilton, WI-Visitation from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Christian Service at 1 p.m. with burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Chilton, WI.
Our sympathy to the Keuler family. Laura was a very special lady. May she rest in peace.

To all of Dickie's children, my sincere sympathy. I always admired your mother for her sense of humor, love of her children and her husband. My thoughts are with you at this time of loss.

Judy (Neuhoff) Berenz (Childhood neighbor) - June 17, 2020

Our deepest sympathy to your family on the passing of your mom. My mom (Lucille) and your mom were close friends as they spent a lot of time together for two years when they lived very close to each other in Calumetville when they were in grade school. My mom cherished her friendship with Dickie over the years. I know your mom to be the most wonderful person as I had a chance to meet and talk to her in her friendship with my mom and from the stories my mom told about their time together growing up. May God bless your family and comfort you during this difficult time. Sincerely, Tom & Linda Cullen

My deepest sympathy to the family. I have long time happy memories with your mother. We not only played together, we went to Calumetville grade school together, and to Cjhilton High School. Many years have passed and at the end of March 2020 you mom wrote her final letter to me. Little did I know that would be our final communication. Bless be her memory. May peace and understanding be with the family. Nyla "Bock" Musser.
