He graduated from Hilbert High School and was drafted into the army for World War II. On October 10, 1950, he married Angela Van Lankvelt at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute.

Leo grew up and worked on the family farm, taking over as the third generation of Campbell to operate it. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert, the Catholic Foresters, and American Legion. He loved fishing in his free time and enjoyed polka music so much that he traveled around to catch shows and attend festivals.

Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Angela; his parents: Walter and Isabelle; grandchildren: Cory Campbell and Sarah Hemauer; siblings: Arthur (Alvina) Campbell and Marie (Bernard) Fassbender; Angela’s parents: Hattie and John Van Lankvelt; and in-laws: Hank (Vern) Van Lankvelt, Frances (Pete) Van Nuland, Pete (Lorraine) Van Lankvelt, Margaret “Mugs” (Rainer) Depies, Bernie Van Lankvelt, Dorothy (Casey) Lamers, and Phil (Shirley) Van Lankvelt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, November 17, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church (108 S. 6th St.) in Hilbert.
