Leonard H Davis

Hilbert WI

Leonard H. Davis, age 90, of Hilbert, died on Friday, November 22, 2024 at his home in Hilbert.  He was born October 17, 1934 in Chilton, son of the late Howard & Anna (Hammer) Davis.

Leonard grew up on a farm, and at a young age began honing his strong work ethic.  During his time on the farm, he shared chores with other family members and even turned a bull into his pet which he was only able to get near.  His working career took him to what is now WE Energies where he dedicated 40 years to helping his customers and neighbors when they were in need, day or night.  While there, he also worked for the Menasha Auxiliary Police Department where he was recognized as a sharpshooter.  With this skill in hand, he was able to help protect Martin Luther King, Jr. while he was in Madison.

Leonard was in constant motion or accomplishing something.  When he wasn’t working, he did enjoy time out boating or fishing.  He was well known for his ability to build and work with his hands.  Leonard was extremely musically inclined, having learned to play each instrument by ear.  It was with this talent that he was requested to help play for several local Polka bands around the area.  Along with a love for music came a passion for dancing which he did whenever possible; he had even gone so far as to win a Ballroom Dancing Contest.  Hearing the rumble of the engine and the wind in his face, Leonard enjoyed moments on his Indian Motorcycle and of course loved following the Green Bay Packers.

In all that he did, Leonard always gave it his all and made sure to be generous with his time to others.  Above all, he cherished his family and knew that when he died, he would be ushered into the presence of his Lord, and all of his family who had gone before him.

Survivors include his daughter: Lori Davis; and a very dear friend: Gary Schaefer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Nancy; a son: Jeff Davis; his brother: Evan (Barbara) Davis; and a nephew: Dean Davis.

Private family services are being held, and Leonard will be laid to rest at the Hillside Cemetery in Chilton.
